Kvadrat Ready Made Curtain Staff DIY. We tried the challenge of drilling holes in the wall.

◉What You'll Need

For installation, please prepare three items—the curtain fabric, the hanging mechanism, and pegs—along with tools.

◉Installation Method: Drilling Holes in the Wall

To install the hanging mechanism, drill holes at the black circle positions shown in the photo below.

4-6 Measure carefully so that the hole positions on the left and right aren't crooked. Secure the hanging mechanism's mounting bracket with screws.

7-9 Fit the hanging mechanism over the fixed mounting bracket. Install the other side in the same way, then run the rope across.

10-12 Pull the rope taut, and then all that's left is to hang the curtain.

◉What if we reuse the curtain rail's holes...?

Our staff wondered if it might be possible to install the curtain by reusing the holes from an existing curtain rail, so we gave it a try. By removing the curtain rail with a screwdriver and reusing those holes, we were able to install the system without drilling new holes. However, this may be difficult depending on your particular setup, so please check carefully before attempting it.

1-2 First, remove the curtain rail using a Phillips screwdriver.

3. Comparing the length of the screw that was in the wall (left) with the screw for securing the hanging mechanism (right), they were almost the same.

4 Since the holes were already there, the mounting bracket could be secured smoothly.

5-6 Fit the hanging mechanism over the mounting bracket and secure it.

7-8 Assemble the handle, insert it into the hanging mechanism that was just attached to the wall, and thread the rope through.

9 Secure the hanging mechanism on the other side in the same way.

10-11 Run the rope between the two hanging mechanisms, then turn the handle to pull the rope taut. This requires some strength, so it's helpful to have work gloves with a non-slip grip.

12  Installation complete. Since there was no need to drill holes, the process went smoothly. However, because the curtain rail's position was right at the edge of the window frame, the curtain ended up inside the window frame, making it easier for light to come in from the top and sides of the curtain.

◉Installation Q&A by Our Staff

Q: How long does installation take?
STAFF  Since I'm not particularly bad at assembly or DIY work to begin with, it took about an hour.

Q: Can it be installed by one person?
STAFF  Even when pulling the rope taut, there was no need to hold the other side, so it was basically possible to install by yourself.

Q: What part of the process was the most difficult?
Marking out the hole positions was the hardest part. Since you can't undo a hole once it's drilled in the wall, and it would be a problem if the height were off between the left and right sides, I was very careful. The included instructions are quite simple, so I think it's easier to understand if you follow along with a video.

Q: How did you check the wall's backing (stud location)?

STAFF  I had a stud finder at home, so I used that.

Q: Can installation be done by a woman?
STAFF  The steps that require some strength are attaching the hanging mechanism's mounting bracket to the wall at the start, and pulling the rope taut, but a woman working alone could do it without any particular problem. When turning the handle of the hanging system, it's convenient to have work gloves with good grip.

Q: Won't the curtain fray if you cut it with scissors?
STAFF   We use a fabric that resists fraying, but it may fray a little. If you're concerned about a raw cut edge, we recommend sewing it. Also, since you'll be cutting a large piece of fabric, please use fabric shears.

Besides windows, this can be installed anywhere there's a wall or ceiling, so it can also be used as a substitute for a door, as a room divider, or like a noren (traditional Japanese curtain). You can also just use the fabric and hang it your own way using an existing curtain rail, or purchase only the parts and hang your favorite fabric on them.
