The season is one where it's getting colder and colder outside, while indoors stays warm thanks to heating. Except for those who work outdoors or are particularly sensitive to cold, "heat-generating" innerwear can sometimes feel like overkill for modern indoor living. Especially for those who can't regulate their own body temperature, moving from outside to inside often results in sweating and dampness, or conversely, feeling chilled.
In this respect, wool innerwear truly excels when it comes to dealing with such "temperature differences." Because it regulates both humidity and temperature, it traps body heat when you step out into the cold, and absorbs and releases sweat when you feel hot—without the odor issues that come with synthetic fibers. The texture against the skin isn't perfectly smooth, but it feels crisp and dry, never clinging unpleasantly to the skin. Also, since this is the season when many people wear wool knits, it's a nice bonus that static electricity is less likely to occur between two pieces of the same material.
This time, we've prepared a vivid color lineup in limited quantities: Berry, Blue, and Aqua. From the eye-catching Berry to the calming greenish Aqua and the refreshing Blue, each shade evokes the nature and air of Scandinavia. These three colors are easy to combine as accent pieces, peeking out from the neckline when layering.
This limited-edition color series is part of the Joha160 series, which in its home country is a kids' line (160cm), but the sizing is a perfect fit for Japanese women. *Please note that fit may vary depending on individual body type. It's also machine washable at home—just place it in a laundry net and spin lightly.
The great thing about colored innerwear is that it doesn't look overtly like underwear, so it doesn't feel out of place even if it peeks out from under your clothes. Made entirely of ribbed fabric, the texture reduces the surface area in contact with the skin, so it doesn't feel sticky, and the good horizontal stretch makes it comfortable and roomy to wear. This time, we've prepared three types: a tank top, a long sleeve, and leggings.
【Limited Colors】Merino Wool Tank Top
This tank top features a simple design that makes it wearable year-round as innerwear. It covers you securely from the chest down to the stomach.
Height 163cm
Of course it can be worn as underwear, but it also works well as visible innerwear layered under a cardigan or a cut-and-sew top with an open neckline. Because it's ribbed, it doesn't look as much like underwear as lace-trimmed pieces might.
【Limited Colors】Merino Wool Long Sleeve
This is the long sleeve type. The ribbing gives it a casual impression, so depending on your taste, it could even be worn on its own from spring into early summer. Another nice feature is that it's longer in length, covering the stomach securely, making it great to wear as underwear beneath a sweater or sweatshirt. It's also lovely how a hint of color peeks out from tops with a wider neckline. The fit isn't too tight, yet it doesn't look bulky when layered—an innerwear piece with just the right, exquisite fit.
【Limited Colors】Merino Wool Leggings
This is the leggings type. Leggings tend to come mostly in black or ecru, so having a colorful option like this one on hand adds a fun new range of choices.
They're great worn under a loungewear dress at home to keep the chill away, or layered beneath a skirt or pants when heading out, as well as for outdoor activities like yoga, light hiking, or running. With their comfort and functionality, these are leggings we'd recommend to women who enjoy dressing well—the kind you're happy to have multiples of. Compared to regular wool, merino wool has a smoother texture against the skin, so it's less likely to feel scratchy.
When you try them on, they feel crisp and dry against the skin while fitting the body just right. They're highly stretchy, without any tight constriction, making them easy to move in. Rather than clinging tightly to the legs like tights, they're closer to spats with a bit of overall ease built in. Walking and sitting are both easy to do without any trouble.
Joha's wool is produced without chemical treatments and holds the rare distinction of EU Ecolabel certification. Material gentle enough to be safely used even for babies feels wonderful for adult women too.
There's an old saying about "lucky underwear," and many people choose fine materials like silk, or cheerful colors that lift their spirits, for the innerwear that touches their skin. Even those who usually prefer basic colors over bold ones may find themselves willing to try something new with Joha's new colors, which can be worn comfortably even in winter.
*Bonus: Testing how much it shows through
Have you ever wondered how much colorful inner wear shows through when worn as underwear? This time, we layered a tank top under a white cut-and-sew top to see just how much it would show. To share our conclusion first: surprisingly, the colors themselves didn't show through in any dramatic way. That said, the 100% merino wool type is knit firmly enough that even the neckline doesn't stretch out, so regardless of color, we'd recommend avoiding thin cut-and-sew tops or knits where texture tends to stand out, and instead choosing a medium-weight top.

A wonderful Christmas gift for someone close to you
If you're trying to decide on a gift for a close family member or friend, why not give them joha inner wear? These colorful, somehow energizing merino wool undergarments are the kind of thing you're always happy to have more of. For someone who feels the cold easily, a long-sleeve and leggings set is a wonderful choice, or you might give a tank top in a different color from one they already own. Choosing a gift while thinking of the person you're giving it to is truly a happy way to spend your time.
Having introduced joha for many years now, we've been struck by how many repeat customers it has. Some people buy the same style in a different color partway through the season, others restock the same item at the same time every year, and others try one piece, fall in love with it, and buy a different style next. Even from the perspective of long-time wearers, wool is a fascinating material—it adjusts to the season and to your body temperature, providing warmth or wicking away moisture as needed, always working to keep you at just the right temperature. It can be worn in the depths of winter and the height of summer alike, but we think it truly shows what it can do in winter.

Many people worry that 100% merino wool inner wear might feel scratchy, but joha uses fibers of just 18-19 microns—among the finest and highest-grade merino wool available—so it's much less likely to feel itchy. Generally speaking, wool used in high-end knitwear tends to measure 19.5 microns or less, and itchiness tends to become noticeable once the fiber exceeds about 22 microns. Looking at these numbers, you can see just how gentle joha's wool inner wear is against the skin.
In fact, the itchiness people sometimes associate with wool can actually be caused by dry skin. There's research suggesting that wool can help calm this kind of dry skin, so personally, rather than switching between synthetic and wool inner wear depending on the day, we think you're less likely to feel discomfort if you simply stick with wool inner wear. It's not just about warmth—it also absorbs sweat and releases dampness, so your skin stays dry and comfortable rather than feeling clammy.

The benefit of adding 15% silk to the 100% wool we just discussed is that it gives the fabric a smooth, silky feel. Even though the wool's fine fibers already make it unlikely to feel itchy, if you have sensitive skin or are hesitant to try 100% wool inner wear for the first time, we'd recommend starting with this silk-blend version instead.
Silk is a natural protein fiber, formed from a concentration of amino acids similar to those found in our own skin, which is why it's considered good for both skin and health. The elegant sheen that appears in the fabric comes from the natural beauty of silk, and despite its delicate image, it's also known as a fiber that's remarkably strong against pulling. Like wool, silk has moisture-absorbing, breathable, and heat-retaining properties, making the wool-and-silk combination a truly luxurious material.
This "85% Merino Wool, 15% Silk Series" is thinner than the "100% Wool Series," making it ideal as inner wear to be worn under shirts or fitted, high-gauge knitwear.
