Winter Men's Coordination to Pair with Denim

Denim pants—worn regardless of gender or generation, and something that can be enjoyed all year round.

Denim pants, now a staple loved by so many people,

originally came about as workwear worn by miners.

At a time when many pants would tear or fray at the hem after prolonged use,

attaching rivets to thick fabric created pants resistant to wear, and they spread throughout the world as such.

At ZUTTO, we carry

men's denim pants from Stevenson Overall Co., a workwear brand launched in 2005.

This time, based on denim pants from Stevenson Overall Co.,

we'd like to introduce winter coordination ideas

that can create a wide variety of impressions depending on what you pair them with.

◇

Drawing inspiration from vintage clothing,

incorporating elements that might at first seem contradictory—

both old and new, both modern and timeless—

Stevenson Overall Co. designs workwear, including denim, that suits the present day.

The appeal of Stevenson Overall Co.'s

denim pants lies first in the beauty of their silhouette.

The Jackson 320 series is a tapered type

with a somewhat relaxed cut from the waist through the thighs.

Even so, it's designed to give a clean, streamlined look to the body's lines.

The 13.5 to 14 oz. selvedge denim has just the right stiffness and a substantial feel,

so much so that even the wrinkles and fading that occur from wearing them can be appreciated as beautiful.

Even though denim tends to give a casual impression, the reason Stevenson Overall Co.'s

denim pants somehow convey a sense of quality

may be due to the stitchwork placed here and there and the distinctive sewing design.

Though small details, they let you glimpse the attention to detail scattered throughout.

① The belt loops, often sewn in a straight line, are instead deliberately stitched at three points

② The distinctively shaped belt loops, which curve narrower from top to bottom,

are sewn only after craftsmen have ironed each one individually

③ The back pockets feature stitching with an intentional curve.

This distinctive V-shaped stitching is also applied to the facing on the inside of the pocket.

When you first start wearing them, the stiffness unique to denim pants is naturally something you notice,

but gradually softening and changing in color is also part of the enjoyment of denim pants.

They may feel a bit distant at first, but over time they become truly your own.

What's more, Stevenson Overall Co.'s denim pants,

with design details placed throughout, are easy to style for various occasions, not just casual ones.

《1》Pair with a Finely Knit Sweater

If you're finishing off a winter coordination with Stevenson Overall Co.'s denim pants,

start with a classic seasonal knit sweater.

Among knits, choosing one finely knit with a fine gauge gives a much more refined impression.

This one is the men's A3835 long-sleeve crew neck pullover from

JOHN SMEDLEY, known as a long-established British knitwear brand.

Carefully knitted from high-quality New Zealand merino wool,

it's characterized by a beautifully lustrous knit texture.

The knitwear from JOHN SMEDLEY, known as fine gauge knits,

achieves a smooth texture without any of the itchiness you'd expect from wool,

showing off the benefits unique to a fine gauge.

Being able to wear it smartly without looking bulky is also a characteristic unique to fine gauge knits.

Even if you feel it might look too composed on its own,

pairing it with denim pants gives it just the right amount of casual ease.

If pairing with simple denim, a knit with distinctive stitch patterns is also recommended.

The MENS crew neck knit with pocket from GUENSEY WOOLLENS

is a Guernsey sweater, said to be the prototype of the fisherman's sweater known as protective wear against the cold worn by fishermen.

Deeply connected to fishermen and the sea, the MENS crew neck knit with pocket, too,

gives meaning to each knit pattern: the ribbing at the cuffs represents rope or a ship's ladder, the shoulder seams represent rope,

and the garter stitch at the armhole represents waves on the shore.

The MENS crew neck knit with pocket, made with natural British wool,

is said to offer excellent warmth, remaining comfortable even when 30% of the fabric's weight is made up of moisture.

Though loosely shaped, the cinched cuffs and thicker neckline help it hold its shape,

keeping out cold air—making it a piece worth having on hand for chilly days.

It might also look great to pair dark-colored denim pants with a knit as the star of the outfit.

《2》Show a Playful Side with a Shirt

Even a shirt with a neat, proper impression can have a distinctive motif attached to it,

and if it's designed with a slightly larger scale, it becomes easier to pair with denim pants.

The FIDELITY men's 24oz C.P.O. shirt jacket is

a shirt jacket with a wool outer fabric and a nylon lining.

Of course it can be worn alone, and it also works as an inner layer under a down vest.

The surface of the wool fabric is brushed up to create a thick, plush finish,

and the design featuring large buttons and pockets

gives it the clean impression of a shirt while also creating the active look of workwear.

The anchor mark on the buttons serves as a nice accent point.

Whether worn as an outer layer draped over your shoulders, or underneath a down jacket,

it blends in naturally when paired with denim pants.

The Stevenson Overall Co.

men's band collar shirt Saloon is a dress shirt that can be worn year-round.

Just like denim pants, the fine stitching catches the eye.

There is an image that a shirt with a motif attached will end up looking too flashy,

but in the case of the men's band collar shirt Saloon, the stitching is fine, and above all,

the high level of sewing craftsmanship shows through as it is, allowing for a refined coordination.

With a design where the fabric wraps around the neckline in a single loop,

the band collar type shirt is not too formal, so it pairs well with denim pants.

Also, because it has no collar, even when layering a jacket, cardigan, or coat on top,

wrinkles don't easily form at the chest and it doesn't bunch up, making it a valuable item for winter coordination.

《3》Accessories to Pair With It

We've introduced tops such as knits and shirts,

but accessories can also expand the possibilities for coordinating with denim pants.

ANGLO LEATHERCRAFT is a belt brand that carefully weaves

leather and what is called wood fiber, a fiber made from wood.

Unlike typical belts, it doesn't have belt holes,

so you can wear it fitted to your own size, making it easy to choose.

Leather and wood fiber blend naturally with denim pants,

and the woven texture that peeks out from the waist during casual movements adds a stylish touch.

Also, needless to say, work boots pair well with denim pants.

CHIPPEWA engineer boots were originally made as shoes for laborers,

so they have a structure designed with foot safety in mind.

The round toe and thick strap are characteristic of engineer boots.

And since they resist losing their shape and maintain a beautiful form, they become a pair you'll want to wear for years to come.

When pairing with denim pants, folding the hem of the pants once

to show the round toe shape of the engineer boots creates a well-balanced look.

Denim Pants: Features and Care】

・As a characteristic of denim pants, shrinkage may occur due to washing.

Also, please understand that repeated washing and wear will gradually cause the stiffness to soften,

resulting in a change in texture over time.

・The dye of denim fabric will gradually fade with repeated use.

As the color fades, whiskers and creases that fit your own legs will appear, allowing the pants to blend with your body over time.

Please note that when you first start wearing them, fading or color transfer may occur due to friction or getting wet,

so please be careful.

◇

When washing denim pants, turn them inside out

so they don't rub against each other in the washing machine. If you're concerned, we also recommend placing them in a laundry net.

After washing, stretch the pants out well and dry them in the shade.

*Please do not use a dryer, as it can cause shrinkage.

*Please be careful, as direct sunlight can cause fading.
