In Search of a Simple, Easy-to-Use Mini Bag - STANDARD SUPPLY B-TOTE XS SERIES -

This special order started with STANDARD SUPPLY's

B-TOTE, a basic-shaped tote bag from their regular lineup, as its base.

Starting from that tote bag, we set out to create

a more compact, cuter, and more feminine silhouette.

Making the tote bag smaller didn't simply mean shrinking its size.

・We changed the vertical-to-horizontal ratio to create a rounded, feminine form

・We gave it plenty of gusset width so it holds more than it appears to

・We widened the opening so items can be taken out and put in easily

・We devised a way for the bag to stand on its own for ease of use

We paid close attention to both this kind of functionality and the overall look.

We actually used the completed samples ourselves,

and this tote bag is the result of repeated fine adjustments.

The two-tone combination of the bag body and the nume leather handles

brings in a design element that goes beyond the basic.

To let the bag stand on its own, we've added several

hidden vertical tape strips and stitching lines on the inside.

You can't see them from the outside, but they're a detail devoted to usability.

Inside the bag is a deep hanging pocket.

Use it for things you want to grab quickly, like your smartphone or a pass case.

This hanging pocket has a snap fastener,

and by fastening it to the snap on the opposite side of the pocket, it doubles as a flap.

Tote bags without a zipper tend to leave the contents visible,

but with the flap fastened, you can feel at ease even when carrying more items, since it's harder to see inside from the outside. 

The nume leather (undyed, vegetable-tanned leather) is the highlight of the design,

and the reason we chose nume leather for the handles isn't just for its durability, but so you can enjoy how it changes over time.

Since this is a durable, long-lasting STANDARD SUPPLY

bag, the longer you use it, the more character it develops—

so please keep an eye on that aspect. 

The nume leather is also used elsewhere: the debossed name plate on the front of the bag, the zipper pull on the inside pocket,

and the little leather loops that pop out on either side of the bag.

These loops aren't just a design accent—

if you attach your own shoulder strap to the loops,

you can also use the bag as a shoulder bag. (Shoulder strap not included.)

The bag has ample gusset width, so the opening can be spread wide,

making it easy to take things out and put them in smoothly.

It comfortably fits a long wallet, smartphone, keys, a paperback book, headphones, and a folding umbrella,

with room to spare—giving it more capacity than you'd need for "just popping out."

Of course, you could also use it as a lunch bag, carrying a bento box and water bottle. 

When you think of STANDARD SUPPLY, you think of 64 Cloth.

This tote bag, of course, also uses that same 64 Cloth.

64 Cloth is a fabric made from a blend of 60% cotton and 40% nylon.

The reason for using these two different materials, cotton and nylon, together

is to achieve "the best of both cotton and nylon."

A typical 64 Cloth has a structure in which cotton and nylon fibers are blended in a vertical direction,

so, for example, when the fabric gets wet, the cotton absorbs the moisture and swells,

which increases the overall density of the fabric, making it harder for water and wind to pass through.

When the moisture dries, gaps form between the fibers again, improving breathability.

What's more, in terms of texture and durability as well,

the strengths of cotton and nylon are well combined.

"100% cotton": a naturally derived fiber that develops character over time, but wrinkles easily.

"100% nylon": lightweight and highly resilient. Resists wrinkling.

64 Cloth takes the best qualities of each,

combining "durability," "a supple texture," and "lightness" all in one fabric.

For example, in this B-TOTE series, the inner hanging pocket also doubles as a flap—

a specification like this shows attention to everyday details, such as the zipper you open and close each day.

The pull tabs are all made of leather,

and leather is also used for the top handle of the daypack (backpack), which

helps reduce the pain of the handle digging into your hand

when carrying a heavy backpack.

These may be small things, but it's precisely this kind of consideration that makes you think, "somehow, this is easy to use,"
