The happiness of being wrapped in warmth. A super uraike (brushed fleece-lined) pullover with an exquisite touch

When you hear the words "sweatshirt" or "sweat top," you probably picture casual wear for days off. Incorporating them into a stylish adult wardrobe can be tricky, and often tests your coordinating skills.

Still, the soft, stress-free comfort of uraike fabric is something we'd love to bring into everyday styling. So we put careful thought into both the material and the shape, creating uraike fabric pieces that adults can wear effortlessly, without having to worry about how to coordinate them.

We used "super uraura" (super brushed fleece), a fabric renowned for its exquisite touch and warmth, made by the manufacturer behind FilMelange, a Japanese cut-and-sew brand also featured on ZUTTO. Unlike ordinary uraike fabric, which has a looped texture, super uraura undergoes a special brushing process that leaves it wonderfully fluffy—almost like being wrapped in mouton (shearling).

Wool sweaters, a winter staple, are beloved not just for their warmth but for the way their knit patterns become part of the design. Yet the truth is that some people with sensitive skin simply can't tolerate wool's characteristic scratchiness. We wanted to create a warm cut-and-sew piece made of cotton that could stand in for a sweater. That's when we came across the fabric "super uraura." We became convinced that this was the material that could deliver both warmth and a pleasant feel against the skin, along with excellent comfort.

"Super uraura" is a fabric knit on a special knitting machine owned by only one knitting company in Japan. After repeated improvements to the machine, they succeeded in knitting the surface using high-count (fine) yarn, something normally very difficult to achieve. By packing a large amount of fine yarn into a coarse gauge, the stitches become densely packed, and by lengthening the loops, the fabric itself gains volume—resulting in an uraike fabric with an entirely different character from the usual kind.

The reverse side is plush and brushed, and at first glance it may look as though the sweatshirt loops are gone. But this isn't because the yarn has been cut—rather, the looped yarn has been brushed to its absolute limit.

The texture is soft and full, yet there's also a certain delicacy to it. Because the uraike fabric has been brushed, it gains thickness and warmth, giving you the happy sensation of being enveloped in fluffiness from head to toe.

Using this super uraura fabric, we've created two styles this time: a pullover and a long cardigan. Each comes in two colors, gray and black.

This is a Henley-neck design, with the center front open down to the chest and fastened with three hooks. Henley necks are usually associated with buttons, but the use of hooks instead gives it a more refined, grown-up impression. The hardware itself has an antique feel—silver hardware gives the black version a cool look, while the gray version uses gold in places for a gentler impression.

On the placket section where the hooks are attached, the super uraura fabric is also used on the outer surface. This lets the soft, plush texture of the material show through, giving it a visually warm impression as well.

You can undo the hooks for a casual look that lets your inner layer peek through, or close them all the way and pair the piece with tailored pants—the styling possibilities are different from those of a crew-neck cut-and-sew top, which is part of its appeal.

The hem and sleeves are left with raw-cut edges, giving them the characteristic curled-up look you see at the edges of sweatshirt fabric. When you roll up the sleeves, the super uraura fabric peeks through—so with the gray version in particular, you can enjoy the contrast between the outer and inner colors.

The Super Uraura Long Cardigan has a soft, rounded shape and a gentle overall impression. A distinctive feature is that when buttoned, the center shifts to the side, causing the left front panel to hang slightly lower than the right. This isn't just for visual design—the asymmetry also increases the overlap between the front panels, helping to keep out drafts.

Five large buttons are placed on the front, and four different types of buttons are used among them, each varying in color or design. Since buttons naturally draw the eye, we aimed for a design that creates a playful sense of rhythm through this variation. The buttons chosen also differ between the black and gray versions of the cardigan. Each color is paired with buttons that have a vintage feel and a warm tone or design that suits it, so be sure to take a closer look.

Take a look at the back side where the buttons are sewn on, and you'll find a "chikara button" (reinforcement button). A chikara button is a small button attached to the back side of the fabric to keep the thread from loosening under the weight of the front-facing button or the thickness of the fabric. It serves the function of protecting the fabric from damage and preventing the front button from coming loose. Normally, these are found on thick coats or jackets, but this time we've used them on uraike fabric. Uraike fabric is characterized by its soft, plush feel—but put another way, that same softness means it can sag under the weight of a button, spoiling a clean silhouette. By attaching chikara buttons, we've made sure the front buttons stay properly upright, creating the cardigan's beautifully clean silhouette.

When you try it on, the silhouette gently rounds out toward the hem. This is because the hem is finished with a wide ribbed edge, and the length is a bit longer than a typical cardigan, falling just below the knee. Layers of thick sweat fabric can normally make it harder to move your legs freely, but by making the front overlap asymmetrical, you can walk without any catching sensation even with all the buttons fastened.

With its dropped shoulders, this piece is designed to be easy to wear as a free size. The arms are roomy too, so it won't feel bulky even when layered over a sweater.

It also has deep pockets on both sides, making it handy whether you're wearing it as an outer layer in autumn and early winter or simply relaxing indoors.

Being a cotton cut-and-sew piece also means it's easy to care for. Natural materials like wool and cashmere inevitably develop pilling with wear. Caring for such pieces and wearing them with affection is, in its own way, the right approach, and of course we have favorite pieces like that too. But having even just one warm, easy-care item in your wardrobe can also greatly expand your outfit possibilities.

Since it's 100% cotton, it can be washed with water at home. We recommend hand washing inside a laundry net.

・Avoid using bleach

Please avoid using bleach, as it will alter the color and texture.

・Please avoid using a clothes dryer.

Using a dryer can distort the silhouette and damage the texture of the fabric, so please let it air dry naturally instead.

・When first worn, the brushed fibers may shed more easily.

Fibers may transfer onto light-colored innerwear or bottoms, but this will settle down over time.
