This is the first T-shirt FilMelange has ever created in collaboration with an artist. The design is a softly rendered landscape painting, inspired by the brand's seasonal theme of "travel." It depicts scenery that feels somehow foreign, as if beckoning you to travel under summer's bright sunlight. The illustration is by Naho Tatsumi, an artist based in Tokyo who has also exhibited overseas, known for her series "Street View Journey," which captures unassuming landscapes from around the world found through Google Street View. She takes scenery that actually exists somewhere in the world and transforms it into artwork through her own unique filter.

The body fabric used is VINK, the brand's signature spring/summer material known as "vintage jersey." It uses an original yarn blended from the finest organic cotton gathered from around the world, expressing the vintage T-shirt atmosphere and irregular texture that FilMelange envisions. Though it already has a vintage mood from the first wear, the fine, uneven yarn is knitted at an exquisitely calculated density, so the more you wear it, the more character and depth it develops. Please enjoy this process, as if raising something of your own.

YONETOMI NEW BASIC is a knit project launched by Yonetomi Sen-i Co., Ltd., a long-established manufacturer that has worked on developing knit textile technology as a knit factory since its founding, with the aim of creating basic items that fit our "new everyday life." It's also the brand behind the summer sweater, born out of two years of trial and error to overturn the common wisdom that "you can't wear knits in summer."

The Short Sleeve Cotton Knit SUMMER KNIT P/O uses a specially ordered material developed by Yonetomi Sen-i, blending cotton and nylon in a twisted yarn. Knitted at a high gauge of 12, it has a smooth, dry-touch texture that feels pleasant and never sticky, even in summer. Another welcome point is that it's easy to care for and can be hand-washed at home. It stays polished without being as casual as a T-shirt—something only a knit T-shirt can achieve.

One thing that tends to bother you the longer you wear a T-shirt is how the collar and fabric start to sag and lose their shape. Since this is an item you'll wash frequently, some of that is unavoidable, but if you want to wear it in good condition for as long as possible, we recommend choosing heavyweight fabric. For T-shirts, "heavyweight" generally means a fabric thickness of about 5 to 7 ounces (1 ounce = roughly 28g per approximately 90 square cm), which gives the fabric enough body to resist misshaping, letting you enjoy it for years to come.

Chijimi fabric, keeping Japanese summers comfortable for 150 years

Biwa Cotton Heavyweight Big T | BIWACOTTON

Chijimi (crinkled crepe cloth) is a traditional Japanese cooling fabric developed to make Japan's hot, humid summers more comfortable, and it's said to have become widely beloved after being popularized nationwide by Takashima merchants. Biwa Cotton is a fabric developed based on the techniques of "Takashima Chijimi," a traditional industry of Takashima City in Shiga Prefecture that dates back to the Edo period.

Takashima Chijimi uses yarn that is twisted more tightly than usual, but Biwa Cotton takes this even further, twisting the yarn to nearly its limit for an even drier feel against the skin. In addition, after weaving, the fabric is passed through boiling water to shrink it, adding stretch as well. Thanks to the textured effect of this crinkling process, the fabric clings to the skin less than typical cotton products do—a welcome benefit during the hot summer months.
