A white T-shirt is essential to summer style.
It's a piece that keeps you looking clean and put-together, while letting you feel calm and at ease wearing it. It's an item that lets you be yourself, without trying too hard or overreaching. Of course, part of the appeal is how easily it pairs with all kinds of styles—but I think the bigger reason people are drawn to white T-shirts is simply how good they feel to wear.
Even if you already own a few, it's the kind of item you want multiples of, just to have fresh ones on hand. And while white T-shirts can feel so standard that we barely think twice about them, subtle differences in brand, material, and size can create surprisingly different impressions. This time, we've picked out a selection from the many white T-shirts featured at ZUTTO to compare side by side, to help you find the one you love best. Why not use this as a chance to choose your white T-shirt for the summer?

・White T-shirts with a logo as an accent point
・Refined plain white knit T-shirts
Let's start with the basics—plain white T-shirts. They may be unassuming pieces that quietly support your outfit rather than stand out, but they're so essential that nothing really comes together without them.
The same model (163cm tall) tried on six T-shirts from different brands.

Model's height: 163cm
Price: 3,300 yen (tax included)
A two-pack of T-shirts from FRUIT OF THE LOOM, a leading American T-shirt maker. With excellent cost performance, these T-shirts work well on their own or layered under shirts and hoodies, making them wonderfully versatile. This is a piece you can wear casually and without worry, day after day.
Designed for women with a relaxed body width and a shorter length, this one has slightly longer sleeves, allowing for an on-trend balance when worn. Rolling up the sleeves a couple of times changes the impression as well.
Price: 8,250 yen (tax included)
FilMelange is a Japanese brand so committed to the feel of fabric against skin that it carefully selects materials down to the cotton itself. This T-shirt uses a tubular jersey fabric knitted softly on a hanging knitting machine, spun from "Orinda cotton"—a pure white, extra-long staple cotton originally from Brazil and grown in Turpan, Xinjiang—using a special thread count.
Precisely because it's such a simple item, it's rare among white T-shirts—where the quality of the fabric and construction really stand out—to find one where you can tell it's "the real thing" just by touching it. It has softness, yet holds its shape well and resists distortion. When worn, it strikes a curious balance between casual and refined.
Another notable feature is the range of sizes available. Beyond finding your "perfect fit" based on height and body type, it can be fun to deliberately choose a slightly looser size, since it changes the overall impression.
The image above shows a model who is 163cm tall wearing size 2 and size 3. The length and sleeve length differ significantly, and this seems likely to affect what you pair it with as well. For clarity, the hem is shown pulled taut, but even with size 3, letting the hem sit loosely allows for a balanced look even without tucking it into your bottoms.
Price: 8,250 yen (tax included)
This T-shirt uses a gauze material rarely found in T-shirts, giving it a wonderfully soft touch. Ao's smooth jersey fabric is essentially "knitted gauze." By knitting extremely fine yarn over twice the usual amount of time, the fabric develops a soft touch and traps layers of air within it. It's known for its moisture absorption, quick-drying properties, and breathability.
The distinctively textured surface creates an expressive quality when worn, giving a sense of "lightness" and "softness" as if you're wrapped in air. The gentle V-neck flatters the collarbone area beautifully, and the lack of any constricting feel makes this a perfect piece for a relaxed mood.
Price: 9,350 yen (tax included)
Made from a blend of 88% cotton and 12% Kortrijk linen, this T-shirt captures the best qualities of each material. The soft texture of organic cotton combines with the crisp, cool feel of Kortrijk linen to create a comfort that's genuinely addictive once you try it on.
In terms of design, it's wonderfully unremarkable—the definitive, classic white T-shirt. That's exactly what makes it so easy to pair with anything, and if you don't already own a white T-shirt, this is the one I'd recommend trying first.
Skirt: Brushed Jersey Skirt
This one also comes in two sizes. The sleeve length stays the same, but the body length differs by 1.5cm—so whether you tuck the hem in or leave it out will likely affect which size you choose.
Price: 5,390 yen (tax included)
This waffle-fabric T-shirt, made as a ZUTTO exclusive, sets itself apart with its subtly textured fabric and ribbed cuffs. The rounded hem, unlike that of an ordinary T-shirt, gives a soft, charming impression when worn untucked.
Skirt: Long Swing Skirt
The fabric is fairly thick and substantial, but because it's a waffle material, it has less surface contact with the skin, avoiding any unpleasant clinginess—a real plus. It can be worn from midsummer all the way through early autumn when a light layer becomes necessary, making it a valuable piece to have for a long season.
Price: ¥6,490 (tax included)
This Goodwear V-neck T-shirt, with its slightly rough texture, is perfect for a summer mood. Goodwear, a brand devoted to timeless, old-fashioned American casual style, uses a 7.2-ounce fabric—on the thicker side for a T-shirt—that resists see-through even when worn alone, and is simply durable, holding up well without easily wearing out.
With these features alone, one might picture a somewhat masculine T-shirt, but the ribbed cuffs and hem give it an overall softer, rounder impression, creating a charming silhouette reminiscent of puff sleeves. The compact V-neck, which doesn't open too wide, keeps the area around the face looking neat.
A logo T-shirt based on white is an item that adds a touch of contrast to a simple look. For those who find it tricky to style accessories, simply switching to a logo tee makes it easy to pull an outfit together effortlessly. Pairing it with feminine skirts or long pants helps balance the look so it doesn't become too sporty.
Here are three we'd like to introduce.

Model's height: 163cm
Price: ¥12,100 (tax included)
The "AMERICAN PARKS&FORESTS" logo is printed on the left chest. The font, chosen to evoke old American street signs and posters of years past, has a neon-sign-like playfulness thanks to its fluorescent color. Since the logo isn't splashed boldly across the front, this is a reassuring choice for anyone new to logo T-shirts.
The VERA Print T-Shirt is knitted from fine thread at a carefully calibrated density. The more you wear it, the more character it develops, so as it softens slightly with wear it takes on the appealing look of a vintage tee.
Price: ¥10,450 (tax included)
This one, by contrast, features the strongly message-driven word "ICONIC" as its logo. Even as a T-shirt, the smooth fabric characteristic of MAJESTIC FILATURES carries an air of quality, making it useful as an inner layer under a casual jacket. Throw on a jacket and it instantly takes on a more grown-up look, so depending on what you pair it with, the range of styling possibilities expands greatly.
Jacket: Linen Sumizome (Ink-Dyed) No-Collar Jacket
Price: ¥6,600 (tax included)
With its large logo and retro-style font reminiscent of a baseball uniform, this T-shirt has a playful spirit. "VISITOR" simply means a visitor, but in baseball terminology it refers to "the opposing team's home turf." Reflecting Jackman's own unique perspective, born from an admiration for American baseball, this T-shirt makes an interesting gift for baseball fans, since it comes with a story behind it.
Sandals: Ankle Strap Sandals
The fabric has a dry, slightly crisp touch, making it an ideal material for the humid rainy season and Japan's muggy summers. Though it's a piece meant to be worn casually, pairing it with feminine long pants or a bag also looks wonderful.
Next up is a white T-shirt made of knit fabric. Strictly speaking, anything called a T-shirt is a knit item, but a knit tee—essentially a winter sweater turned short-sleeved—gives off a refined impression with less of the casualness of an ordinary T-shirt. Pairing casual bottoms with a casual T-shirt tends to result in a distinctly sporty look, but simply switching to a knit T-shirt turns it into something fitting for a grown-up to wear.
To keep things balanced, you can pair it with casual bottoms and accessories like denim or sneakers, enjoying a casual mix.
Price: ¥29,700 (tax included)
This knit T-shirt from JOHN SMEDLEY, a long-established British knitwear maker, uses Sea Island cotton, judged to be the finest quality of the season. The fabric has a smooth, relaxed feel that almost brings sweatshirt fabric to mind, and its exceptionally fine texture is so comfortable that it makes you forget you're wearing a knit at all.
Skirt: UK430201 Gurkha Skirt OLV
Parts like the cuffs, hem, and the seams between the body and sleeves are all carefully knitted, so the shirt fits naturally against your body once you put it on.
Price: 24,200 yen (tax included)
Made with organic cotton, this knit t-shirt has a tightly woven, high-density fabric. Its solid thickness means what you wear underneath won't show through, making it a great choice even for those who don't do well with summer air conditioning or who have poor circulation and can't dress too lightly.
Denim: Bardot UP127305 High-Waist Straight Denim BLU
Since the knit t-shirt itself already has a refined, grown-up quality, pairing it with denim pants doesn't feel too casual—instead, it gives an effortless look with a touch of extra polish.
