This cotton blouse, custom designed for ZUTTO, perfectly embodies FACTORY's strength in "unique fabric creation." It features a crisp, "Omi-zarashi" fabric, unevenly dyed using a dyeing method devised by FACTORY. Omi-zarashi is a time-honored technique from the Kotō region of Shiga Prefecture, where artisans laboriously knead each bolt of fabric by hand. Burning it with lye (a type of bleach) softens the fabric and makes it easier to dye. Repeated sun-drying and boiling in a cauldron kneads the fabric, developing tasteful, fine wrinkles and textures, resulting in a texture with a high-density crispness reminiscent of antique fabrics.

The color is an unevenly dyed black that brings out the best in Omi-zarashi. The method used to create the unevenness that gives each piece its unique look is similar to basket dyeing. Each blouse is placed inside a cylindrical bag, and the overlapping of the blouses creates an uneven pattern. While basket dyeing produces a strong overall pattern, this time we wanted to express unevenness rather than a pattern, so we devised a unique method to minimize the pattern. The custom blouse, created by combining fabric and dye, has a depth reminiscent of a clear night sky, different from plain black. With a smooth, refreshing feel, it can be worn even in the lingering heat of summer. The generous width of the body also encourages layering with a T-shirt underneath. The intentional wrinkles make this shirt easy to care for.

The company originally started as a store that sold purchased clothing, but in 1983 it changed its policy to manufacturing all products in-house, built a factory behind the store, and established the brand "FACTORY", which sells original wear. The brand started with just a sewing machine, but as the company continued to make clothes that fit each customer's body, in 1990 they decided to go overseas in search of materials in order to create products with even more originality. It seems that he began to visit and established a dyeing workshop. Although we are a small company, we continue to make clothes with particular attention to detail, and our current form of creation, in which we handle all planning, material development, manufacturing, and production ourselves, was born. All the design patterns of such FACTORY are produced in a design atelier in Tokyo. Our staff, who have extensive experience in pattern making at collection brands, create all shapes using 3D cutting and repeat sample stitching over and over again to create a design that is comfortable to wear without being tied to trends, and is simple but comfortable to wear. The one and only clothes that are "a little unique" are finished. And based on the patterns created, the company's own factory in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture produces clothes. In addition to cutting and sewing, we are also committed to “dyeing” products and raw materials at the attached dyeing factory. This is a style of manufacturing that reflects the atmosphere of Ashikaga, a region historically known for its textile manufacturing, that is reflected in its clothes.
