The rim plate, which was made with a user-friendly size and design in mind, is characterized by its versatility.It is perfect for main dishes such as curry, pasta, and hamburgers, and has a gentle slope to make it easy to eat beef stew and risotto, and the rim prevents the table from getting dirty when scooped up.It is recommended for one plate with bread, scrambled eggs, and sausage for breakfast, or for a salad plate the day after a day of overeating.The smooth wood surface and lacquer are beautiful, making this an unlikely lacquer plate.

Select a rim plate

Plates that are resistant to cracking even if dropped and offer the warmth of wood have always been popular, but inexpensive ones are so light that the plastic coating can quickly peel off and turn black, or they can become moldy because they are not wiped up properly.This Only Bowl rimmed dish is moderately heavy and does not shift as it is used, and thanks to the antibacterial effect of lacquer, it is also resistant to mold.They dry quickly with a quick wipe, and I also find them easier to dry than ceramics.

The wooden base of a urushi bowl is made of zelkova wood, over which lacquer is applied.Lacquer is the sap that comes out when the urushi tree is scratched, and the more it is used, the more it tastes good.Because it is a natural material, each piece is unique, just like people, and no two pieces are exactly alike.Therefore, even if the same process is performed, the amount of time and effort required differs from one item to another, but there is no difference in the high level of perfection, and the item is still made with care and attention to detail.

Wiping lacquer gives the impression of warmth by allowing the grain of the wood to be seen.The grain expression differs depending on the wood, so it is easy to feel that the bowl is unique and special.
Wiping lacquer: Raw lacquer is applied to the bowl and wiped off repeatedly to finish it.
Wiped lacquer: Black lacquer is produced by adding iron and heat to the raw lacquer material and stirring it to produce a black color.As with raw lacquer, the process of repeatedly coating the bowl and wiping off the lacquer is repeated to finish it.

Rokurosha is a wooden products workshop established by Yoshio Sakai, a round wood joiner, in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture.Born in Hokkaido, Mr. Sakai moved to Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, when he joined a wood products manufacturer.There, he studied under Reiji Yamaguchi, a woodworker and traditional craftsman, and mastered his skills as a woodworker.After leaving the company, he honed his skills under Masayoshi Shimizu, a traditional craftsman of Echizen lacquerware, and in 2014, he established the workshop Rokurosha (Rokurosha) for making wooden parts.The concept of Rokurosha is to "redefine value" by producing products without being particular about materials and manufacturing methods, focusing on wood while continuing the techniques as a traditional marumono-kijiji maker.
