As we get older, we have fewer and fewer opportunities to wear yukata. Now that yukata can be worn more smoothly by yourself using social networking services, why not try wearing a yukata at night to avoid the daytime heat, or to enjoy a new yukata together with your old one? How about enjoying your summer outings this year?
The unique characteristic of the yukata of Kiri Dyeing lies in its light and beautiful dyeing. The colors are not strong and clear, such as indigo or white, but colors created by overlapping and mixing colors, and the unique patterns they create. These yukata have a mysterious charm, using traditional Japanese dyeing techniques, but with a somewhat foreign feel.
Unique pattern
Kirisome was founded in 1919 in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, the production center of Kiryu textiles, and the second generation, Teiji Yamazaki, worked hard to develop and pass down the dyeing techniques as a traditional craftsman in the Kiryu textile dyeing department. Using the techniques that have been cultivated over four generations since the company's founding, the company conveys the appeal of hand-dyeing through its products.
The yukata SUNSHINE yellow marble is dyed using one of the traditional dyeing techniques called "basket dyeing. Kagozome is a technique in which a cloth is pulled in between two baskets (board-like objects) and dyed in a speckled pattern. It is said that high skill is required to dye beautiful speckled patterns. The way the pattern appears varies depending on the way the fabric is hand-drawn, so no two patterns are ever the same, resulting in a unique pattern. Based on this technique, Mr. Hiramoto, the fourth generation of the family, created a new dyeing method called "marble dyeing," in which dyes are mixed on the fabric, and each piece of yukata is carefully dyed. While dyes are usually made and then dyed, in marble dyeing, dyes are mixed on the fabric to create colors. Therefore, the colors are not predetermined, but the dyes are mixed on the fabric to create unique colors and patterns.
SUNSHINE yellow marble has a yellow base with purple, khaki, and a hint of light blue. These colors are gently blended together in some places, creating new colors and patterns every time you wear it! You may encounter new colors and patterns every time you wear it. The colors of the SUNSHINE yellow marble are inspired by the cool, sunny weather of Los Angeles. It is a quick and gorgeous pattern that gives you a feeling of happy daytime sunshine, as if the sparkling and dazzling sun you suddenly look up at will cheer you up.
In addition, the dye is fixed using corn starch, which leads to beautiful colors without using as much dye as normal dyeing. With a little chemical dye and a little water, they have succeeded in reducing the amount of dye and water used by more than 50% compared to the dye and water normally used. The manufacturing process is also environmentally friendly.
The appeal of hand-dyeing
Kiryu dyeing began in 1919 in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture. Kiryu City is known as a textile production area, and as the legend goes, "Nishijin in the west, Kiryu in the east," Kiryu textiles have a history of over 1,000 years. Even today, the textile industry is thriving in the area, with many manufacturing processes such as sewing and embroidery as well as weaving still in operation.
Kirizome began as a yarn twisting business in the latter half of the Meiji era (1868-1912), and in 1919, Seishiro Yamazaki, the first generation of the Kirizome family, moved the business to the dyeing industry. Since then, the dyeing factory has been engaged in not only color dyeing of silk yarns but also in various dyeing processes such as fabric dyeing and product dyeing to meet the needs of the times. The company has changed its name to Kirizome since 2014, and is now conveying its desire to convey the charm of hand-dyeing through its original brand.
