As we get older, we have fewer opportunities to wear yukata. There may be many people who think it would be wonderful to wear yukata to fireworks displays, summer festivals, and other special summer occasions, but have decided to put it off until next year. Now that you can wear a yukata more easily by using SNS, you can avoid the heat of the day and go out wearing a yukata at night, or enjoy going out this summer with your new yukata. How about that?
The uniqueness of paulownia-dyed yukata lies in its pale and beautiful dyeing. It is not a clear strong color such as indigo or white, but a color that is created by overlapping and mixing colors, and the one-of-a-kind pattern that it creates. Although it uses traditional Japanese dyeing techniques, it is a mysterious and attractive yukata that has a somewhat overseas atmosphere.
One-of-a-kind pattern
Kiryu Dye was founded in 1919 in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, which is the production area for Kiryu Ori. The second generation, Sadaharu Yamazaki, worked as a traditional craftsman in the Kiryu textile dyeing department, striving to develop and pass down dyeing techniques. Using the techniques cultivated over four generations since our founding, we convey the charm of hand-dyed dyeing through our products.
Yukata MORNING SKY right blue marble is dyed using one of the traditional dyeing techniques, ``kagozome''. Kago-zome is a technique of hand-wrapping cloth between two baskets (board-shaped baskets) and dyeing the pattern in spots. It seems that a high level of skill is required to dye the beautiful mottled pattern. The way the pattern comes out changes depending on how the fabric is handled, so no two patterns will be the same, and each piece will have a unique pattern. Based on this technique, Mr. Hiramoto, the fourth generation, created a new dyeing method called "marble dyeing" in which dyes are mixed on the fabric, and each piece is carefully dyed to create this yukata. Normally, the dye is made and then dyed, but with marble dyeing, the dye is mixed on the fabric to create the color. Therefore, rather than using a predetermined color, the dyes mix on the fabric, creating unique colors and patterns.
MORNING SKY right blue marble has a light blue base with hints of yellow, khaki, and light blue peeking through. Those colors are gently mixed in some places, and there were such wonderful colors here too! You may discover new colors and patterns every time you wear it. The dyeing expresses thoughts of exotic lands across the ocean, and MORNING SKY right blue marble is inspired by the clear morning sky of California. The sound of birds chirping and the pleasant morning sun. A special time that can only be enjoyed in the morning. It has a cool-looking pattern.
In addition, the dye is fixed using corn starch, which allows for beautiful color development without using as much dye as with regular dyeing. It seems that they have succeeded in reducing the amount of chemical dye and water by more than 50% compared to the dye and water normally used. Manufacturing is done with consideration for the environment.
Conveying the charm of hand-dyed
Kiryu dyeing began in 1919 in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture. Kiryu City is known as a textile production area, and Kiryu-ori has a history of over 1,000 years, as it is said to be ``Nishijin to the west and Kiryu to the east.'' Even now, many of the manufacturing processes such as sewing and embroidery are carried out in addition to textiles, making this area a thriving textile industry.
Kirisome began its yarn twisting business in the latter half of the Meiji period, and in 1919, the founder Seishiro Yamazaki transformed it into a dyeing business. Since then, the dyeing factory has not only dyed silk threads, but also carried out a variety of dyeing methods to meet the needs of the times, including fabric dyeing and product dyeing. The second generation, Mr. Sadaharu Yamazaki, is a traditional craftsman in the Kiryu textile dyeing department. We worked hard to develop and pass down dyeing techniques. In 2014, we changed our trade name to Kirizome, and through our original brand we aim to convey the charm of hand-dyed dyeing using the techniques we have cultivated over many years.
