Breakfast is the start of the day. We have created a new Only Wan bespoke multi-cup with the aim of creating a multi-purpose bowl that you will want to pick up at that time every day. Yesterday we had Japanese food, but today we will have Western food. On busy weekdays, we have simple toast and soup, and on weekends we can relax and have rice, miso soup and fluffy omelette. You can use it for any breakfast scene without hesitation, so please use it as a standard dish for a long time. And the reason it is called a "multi-cup" is that it is easy to use not only for breakfast, but also for lunch and dinner.
Only Wan is a bowl that fits your lifestyle. Choose the shape and color combination you want, and the craftsmen at the woodworking workshop Rokurosha will take the time to create a one-of-a-kind lacquer bowl according to your order. You can feel the warmth of this bowl, which was carefully made just for you, just by holding it in your hand.
It looks compact, but it actually holds a lot
A bespoke multi-cup was born from the daily feeling of a staff member whose mornings have become busier than before due to a change in lifestyle, who thought, "If I had a cup like this, I would be able to spend my mornings more easily." Originally using lacquer bowls, I knew how light and easy to handle they were, so I was able to imagine it more concretely.
When you don't have much time, breakfast dishes should be "as compact as possible" and "it's easy if you can always use the same ones." They can be used for bread or rice, both Japanese and Western, and can be used as a rice bowl, soup bowl, or small bowl for dinner leftovers. And the shape goes well with any dish. Being multi-purpose means you spend less time worrying about dishes, and you'll grow more attached to them by using them every day. You can also feel the changes that are unique to lacquer bowls, which become more lustrous and fit your hand the more you use them.
When you don't have enough time to make soup or miso soup, you can easily drink instant soup. The size is large enough to hold 180ml, which is a standard volume. It can be used not only for soup, but also as a rice bowl and is deep enough to hold rice with a raw egg on it. Normal bowls have a high base, so the capacity is smaller than it looks, but this bowl looks compact but actually aims to hold a lot. You can use it as a dessert cup for fruit or yogurt, so after using it for breakfast, you can use it as a dessert cup for snacks or for evening snacks, so please feel free to pick it up and use it anytime.
Because it is stackable, you can store it by stacking it for the whole family and take it out all at once when you need it. It is lightweight compared to ceramic and other seasonings, so it is very easy to handle. This is a special order product only for ZUTTO, made with a focus on "easy-to-use shape" so that you can use it every day.
Choose an Only Bowl
A lacquer bowl is made by applying lacquer to the zelkova wood. Lacquer is the sap that comes out when the lacquer tree is cut, and the charm of this lacquer bowl is that it develops a unique flavor the more it is used. Because it is a natural material, just like people, each one has its own personality, and no two are exactly the same. Therefore, even if the same process is carried out, the amount of effort required varies depending on the item, but there is no difference in the high level of completion, and it is still made with care and attention.
The process of making a bowl is the same for all coating methods up to "purchase materials at the market > carve into the ideal shape > soak in plenty of lacquer to fill the wood's ducts (wood base hardening)". After that, the true coating process involves applying lacquer to the polished wood base, and then polishing it again and applying lacquer again, repeating this process to increase the strength, and there are about 16 processes in total. Even a single bowl is carefully crafted by many craftsmen, including a wood sculptor who scrapes the surface, a base coater who applies multiple layers of lacquer, a top coater who applies the finishing lacquer, and a lacquer artist who applies lacquer.
▼The characteristics of each type of lacquer are as follows.
[Wipe Lacquer]
The wood grain is visible, giving the bowl a warm impression. Since the grain of the wood varies depending on the wood, it is easier to feel the special feeling of having a one-of-a-kind bowl.
・Wipe Lacquer Raw Lacquer: The raw lacquer is applied to the bowl and wiped off repeatedly to complete the finish.
・Wipe Lacquer Black Lacquer: The raw lacquer is mixed with iron and heat while being chemically altered to a black color. As with raw lacquer, the bowl is repeatedly painted and wiped off to complete the finish.
【Mehajiki】
The lacquer applied to the bowl is applied in layers without being wiped off, and the thick coating gives it strength. Perfect for those who want to show off the wood grain, but also want a bowl that is more durable than wiped lacquer.
【Shin-nuri】
Unlike wiped lacquer, it is made by mixing diatomaceous earth and layering cloth, so it is very durable. Pigments are used for coloring.
【Usuguchi】
This is a color that ZUTTO specially requested for this Only Bowl Order Event. It is a slightly lighter color than Shin-nuri and is closer to vermilion, so it is a color that blends in better with the dining table. This is also colored using the same method as Shin-nuri.

ROKUROSHA is a wooden product workshop established by Yoshio Sakai, a master of wood products in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture. While he was born in Hokkaido, Mr. Sakai has moved to Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture when he joined a wooden product manufacturer. He has studied under Reiji Yamaguchi, and learned the skills as a woodworker. After leaving the company, he refined the technique under the guidance of Masayoshi Shimizu, a traditional craftsman of Echizen lacquerware, and in 2014, started the workshop, ROKUROSHA. The concept of the brand is "redefinition of value" in which products are produced with a focus on wood, without being particular about materials and manufacturing methods, while inheriting the technique of a traditional round wood block.
