It all started with a chance encounter

Dansko was founded in Pennsylvania, USA in 1990. The founder, a horse trainer, went to his hometown of Denmark to buy a horse and found clogs in a small shoe store. The founder loved the comfortable feel of the clogs, and they became his favorite pair of shoes, comfortable to wear wherever he went. After that, he would go to Denmark to bring back shoes for his friends, and he would put the shoes in his car and start selling them at horse shows. Inspired by these clogs, he tried to sell more comfortable shoes in the United States, and after 20 years of improvements, he launched a company called dansko (Danish shoes).
