This lightweight and warm Nordic Snow sweater from Harley of Scotland is knitted with soft yarn. Compared to a plain knit, the pattern around the collar acts as an accent, effectively balancing the overall look. While Nordic sweaters can often evoke a sense of nostalgia depending on the color scheme, these Nordic sweaters from this long-established brand, crafted with beautiful colors and traditional Shetland and Fair Isle knitwear, are fashionable and attract attention every year.
Lightweight and Soft Sweater
Shetland wool, the wool of Shetland Island's legendary seaweed-eating sheep, is exceptionally light, warm, and beautifully colored thanks to its harsh environment. Its beauty is unmatched. Due to the strong winds of the North Atlantic, Shetland Islands has almost no pasture, so the island's sheep are forced to feed on seaweed. The wool from these sheep is blended in a unique way at a long-established mill founded in Scotland in 1798, boasting a rich variety of over 100 colors available each season.
Harley of Scotland has also adopted the WHOLEGARMENT method since its founding, and is one of the few knitwear manufacturers still in operation today.
The brand's signature fully fashioned sweaters are seamlessly knitted (circular knitting) with no seams on the body or arms, resulting in a comfortable, non-stiff fit. The long-pile yarn provides excellent texture and moisture retention, while remaining so light you'll forget you're wearing it.
Easily laundered at home, they retain their shape, and are a long-loved classic knitwear with excellent cost performance.
This Nordic sweater features knitted patterns at the neck, hem, and hands, making it a truly wintery piece. While the monotone color scheme is subdued, it brightens up winter outfits, often featuring darker tones. It pairs well with voluminous skirts and denim pants, making it a beloved piece for all ages. It's not as thick as typical wool knitwear, so it's comfortable to wear even under an outer layer. We've created a collection that encourages you to try out different patterns and feel light and nimble as you stroll through winter towns.
Nordic sweaters bring a seasonal feel, warmth, and coziness, so be sure to add them to your annual collection this year and enjoy the season.
Making the Most Comfortable Clothing
Harley of Scotland is a long-established Scottish knitwear manufacturer founded by Peter Harley in 1929. The brand's origins date back to the traditional, beautifully patterned sweaters Peter encountered during his voyages in Orkney, Shetland, Fair Isle, and other places.
For hundreds of years, sweaters made in the lands of Shetland and Fife not only provided comfort and warmth, but each sweater pattern carried a unique meaning, recognizing the people who labored in the changeable northern seas. Inspired by these traditional, beautiful patterns and colors, the brand's origins lie in offering lightweight, soft sweaters perfect for everyday wear.
Then, in the 1980s, Harley began importing beautiful merino wool from Italy and producing sweaters in Fair Isle, one of its current key markets, that maintained traditional styles while pursuing lightness, warmth, and softness.
Today, in addition to its original designs, the brand designs for private brands and retailers, and produces seamless knitwear using the latest technology, providing high-quality wool clothing for three generations.
Harley of Scotland sweaters, with their simple yet timeless designs, continue to be loved by people of all ages and genders. This sweater is made from a low gauge (thick yarn) and has just the right thickness and volume, making it a useful item that allows you to enjoy a simple yet eye-catching style whether you're wearing an outer layer or not.
