The soft texture of the clay, unique to Mino ware, exudes a rustic yet elegant flavor. The Kenzan Crane Matcha Bowl, featuring an elegant crane design, measures just 11.5cm in diameter and 7.5cm in height.
While combining a soft texture that allows you to feel the warmth of the earthenware with durability, this bowl will develop crazing over time, allowing you to enjoy its aging process.
A versatile matcha bowl that elevates home cooking
The moment of making matcha. Hot water is poured over the vibrant green matcha and stirred with a bamboo whisk. The satisfying sound of the whisk echoing from the bowl is a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Feeling the warmth of the bowl in your hands while enjoying a leisurely cup of tea is a simple and enriching experience.
While the term "sado" (tea ceremony) may conjure up images of a dignified world, simply brewing tea with care can truly bring a sense of comfort. When your busy daily routine feels overwhelming, pause for a moment and prepare tea in a beautiful teacup. Such a hobby is a wonderful way to add a touch of Japanese culture to your life.
How to Use Matcha Bowls, Even Chefs Are Paying Attention
Chefs and food stylists consider matcha bowls' depth and moderate size ideal for beautifully presenting dishes, including simmered dishes, boiled greens, salads, and donburi (rice bowls).
For example, they're perfect for serving liquid dishes like yogurt bowls, granola, soups, and risottos for breakfast, and their comfortable grip makes them appealing. They also create an elegant atmosphere when used as dessert cups for ice cream and other desserts.
By using matcha bowls not only at tea ceremonies but also at the dinner table every day, they become a familiar and beloved piece of tableware. Through the joy of serving food, these bowls naturally blend Japanese aesthetics into your daily life, adding a touch of elegance to any space. They are recommended as a perfect addition to your New Year's collection, a gift for special occasions, or a present for someone overseas.
More than Half a Century of Craftsmanship
Zouho Kiln opened in 1970. After training under a Living National Treasure, the kiln has since won top awards for ceramic design and been commissioned by art museums to produce replicas of Important Cultural Properties, drawing attention for its sophisticated taste and craftsmanship. Since then, the kiln has continued to produce reliable and consistent products, earning it a designation as an official kiln of the Gifu Prefecture Shrines Association.
Zouchinkama also produces reproductions of works by Ogata Kenzan, a leading Edo period ceramicist. Kenzan, whose brother was the painter Ogata Korin, studied under Nonomura Ninsei and made a name for himself in Kyoto as "Kenzan ware." Despite maintaining a studio-based production system, he has left behind many works that continue to captivate people today with their bold designs and refined aesthetic sense. Zouchinkama continues to carry on Kenzan's spirit while creating tableware that is suited to modern life.
Zouchinkama's tableware, which adds color and richness to the dining table, seems to teach us about the leisurely flow of time in our daily lives and the taste and beauty that come from it.
