The brand was founded by designer and owner Yoichi Maeda. Influenced by his father, a bespoke shoemaker, he admired shoemaking from childhood and entered the footwear industry at a young age. After various roles bringing shoes to customers, he moved into product planning and learned the craft. Out of those experiences came the footwear maker chausser（ショセ）. The brand name comes from the French word for “to put on (shoes).” With a single store in Ebisu, Tokyo, the brand is available in seven countries worldwide. chausser aims to create timeless shoes that, if you were to find them in a vintage shop 30 years from now, you’d still want to wear—and, with proper care, shoes you can wear for 30 years. That spirit drives the making of footwear you’ll keep reaching for.
