The brand was founded by designer and owner Yoichi Maeda. Influenced by his father, a bespoke shoemaker, he admired shoemaking from childhood and entered the footwear industry at a young age. After various roles bringing shoes into people’s hands, he moved into planning and learned the craft. Out of those experiences came the footwear maker chausser（ショセ）. The brand name is the French word for “to put on (shoes).” With a single store in Ebisu, Tokyo, it is available in seven countries worldwide. They aim to create timeless shoes that, if you were to find them in a vintage shop 30 years from now, you would still want to wear—and, with proper care, shoes you can wear for 30 years. That spirit drives their shoemaking, so you’ll keep reaching for them.

chausser（ショセ） shoes are not made for mass production. They carry a warmth and charm you won’t find in mass-market goods. Even after leaving the artisans’ hands, they gain depth as they spend time with their wearer, eventually becoming one of a kind. That, perhaps, is the allure of chausser.
