This knit cap is made from a jersey fabric knitted in Italy using a sliver knitting machine, with wool sourced from the Shetland Islands in northern Scotland—known for its thick yet soft texture.
By using the sliver knitting method, the wool is knitted without twisting the yarn, trapping warm air between the fibers for excellent insulation.
While it shares the same design as the brand’s waffle-knit cap, this version has slightly more width to accommodate the fabric’s lower elasticity.

Craftsmanship with a touch of rebellion

Jackman is a factory brand from Fukui Prefecture, Japan, carrying on the spirit of its founder, Isao Tanabe of Tanabe Meriyasu.
Driven by his admiration for American baseball after World War II, Tanabe left his position at the Fukui Prefectural Office—against all opposition—to start a small factory with only three knitting machines in an eight-mat tatami room.

Originally producing only baseball stockings, his passion soon expanded to include uniforms and gloves.
By the time of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, his factory had grown enough to provide training wear for the Japanese national team.
That same dedication and inspiration from baseball continue to shape Jackman’s craftsmanship today.

Even now, more than 60 years later, the Jackman sewing factory continues to use both modern machines and rare, vintage ones—such as Union Special and REECE—maintaining them carefully in its in-house repair room.
The brand’s signature details, born from Tanabe’s ideas, have been refined over decades of production.
