They were originally created to protect the feet of island workers from the hot, dry ground, and they are popular among people of all ages in the region. In 2004, Noelia, the founder of AVARCA PONS, moved from Barcelona to the United States and discovered that these sandals were not widely known abroad, leading to the start of sales in America. Since then, they have gained recognition as a fashionable item and are loved worldwide.

While Avarca sandals are produced in various shoe factories, only three companies are officially recognized to use the name Avarca sandals. One of them is AVARCA PONS. Starting as a family-run business, the Pons family has continued the tradition, and it has now reached the third generation as a royal shoe brand in Spain.
