These traditional Avarca sandals are handmade on the island of Menorca, Spain. They were originally created to protect the feet of island workers from the hot, dry ground, and they are popular among people of all ages in the region. When Noelia, the founder of AVARCA PONS, moved from Barcelona to America in 2004, she discovered that these sandals were not well-known abroad, prompting her to start selling them in the U.S. They later gained recognition as a fashion item and are now widely loved around the world.

While Avarca sandals are produced in various shoe factories, only three companies are officially recognized to use the name Avarca sandals. One of them is AVARCA PONS. Starting as a family-run business, the Pon family has continued the tradition, and it remains a royal shoe brand favored by the Spanish monarchy, now in its third generation.
