The STUDEBAKER METALS bangle features a matte finish and hammer marks that create a slightly rugged appearance, leaving a strong impression. When you feel the cool metallic texture against your wrist, it somehow brings a sense of focus and determination. As you use it over time, the color and luster will change, and even the minor scratches will add character, making it an accessory you’ll want to cherish for years to come.
Crafted with Traditional Techniques
Typically, bangles are made by pouring metal into molds like castings, but the STUDEBAKER METALS bangle is crafted through forging, where each piece of metal is hammered individually to gradually form curves. The hammering process not only shapes the bangle but also compresses the internal structure of the metal, enhancing its strength. This method has been used historically for tools that require durability, such as knives and weapons, and is sometimes applied in the production of automotive and aerospace components due to its resilience. You can use it daily without excessive worry about bumps or scratches, embracing the changes as part of its character.
There are two types of forging: "die forging," which involves shaping under pressure using molds, and "free forging," which shapes the metal while observing it with tools like hammers. STUDEBAKER METALS items are made using the latter, free forging method. Compared to die forging, which is suitable for mass production, free forging relies on the artisan's tactile sense, resulting in slight individual variations and a handcrafted contour.
The UNISEX bangle STUDEBAKER Fineline CLASSIC CUFF WORK PATINA features a simple, linear design. While it has a rugged impression, its slender form makes it easy for women to wear, allowing for stacking multiple pieces or layering with other accessories. Available in COPPER and BRASS, both materials blend well with the skin and promise an enjoyable aging process. An accessory that can be loved for everyday use makes a wonderful gift for special occasions like birthdays or Christmas.
Creating Timeless Pieces Beyond Trends and Gender
STUDEBAKER METALS was established in November 2013 by Michael Studebaker and Alyssa Catalano, both skilled metal artisans. Michael Studebaker has provided products for brands and companies worldwide, creating crafts that can be used in daily life using traditional manufacturing methods and materials. Alyssa Catalano, while involved in product design as a jewelry buyer, experienced the production of cheaply mass-produced jewelry made from metal casting. Feeling conflicted about the simplistic jewelry that was favored in the rapidly changing fashion trends, she encountered Michael Studebaker's traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by his deep love for metalwork, which stands apart from machine-produced items, they aimed to create timeless pieces and launched their brand together.
