The STUDEBAKER METALS bangle features a slightly rugged appearance created by its matte finish and the texture of hammer marks. When you feel the cool metal against your skin, it somehow brings a sense of focus and clarity. As you use it over time, the color and luster will change, and even the small scratches will add character, making it an accessory you’ll want to cherish for years to come.
Crafted with Traditional Techniques
When it comes to bangles, the common method involves pouring metal into a mold like casting. However, the bangles from STUDEBAKER METALS are made through forging, where each piece of metal is hammered individually to create a gentle curve. This hammering process not only shapes the bangle but also compresses the internal structure of the metal, enhancing its strength. This traditional method has been used for tools requiring durability, such as knives and weapons, and is sometimes applied to automotive and aerospace parts today due to its resilience. You can wear it daily without being overly concerned about bumps or scratches, embracing the changes as part of its character.
There are two types of forging: "die forging," which shapes metal under pressure using molds, and "free forging," which shapes metal while observing its form with tools like hammers. The items from STUDEBAKER METALS utilize the latter, free forging. Compared to die forging, which is suited for mass production, free forging relies on the artisan's touch, resulting in slight individual variations and a distinctly handcrafted contour.
The UNISEX bangle STUDEBAKER Fineline LODGE CUFF WORK PATINA features a rounded design with soft lines and minimal corners. While it has a rugged impression, its slender and gentle curves make it easy for women to wear. It can be stacked with multiple pieces or paired with your existing jewelry effortlessly. Available in COPPER and BRASS, both colors blend well with the skin and promise enjoyable aging over time. This accessory, perfect for everyday use, makes a delightful gift for special occasions like birthdays or Christmas.
Timeless Craftsmanship Beyond Trends and Gender
STUDEBAKER METALS was founded in November 2013 by Michael Studebaker and Alyssa Catalano, both skilled metal artisans. Michael Studebaker has provided products for brands and companies worldwide, creating usable crafts with classical manufacturing methods and materials. Alyssa Catalano, as a jewelry buyer, was involved in product design while experiencing the mass production of jewelry made from cheap cast metals. Feeling conflicted about the trend towards easily accessible jewelry in a rapidly changing fashion landscape, she encountered Michael Studebaker's traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by his deep love for metalwork, which stands apart from machine-made products, they aimed to create timeless pieces and launched their brand together.
