WALLACE SEWELL, whose uniquely crafted fabrics are meticulously spun in British textile mills, captivates the world with their exceptional design and soft, warm feel. Now, a wool scarf that feels like wearable art has arrived. This slim scarf features different patterns on each side, allowing you to enjoy various looks with a single piece. Though vibrant with its multi-color palette, it drapes beautifully and feels perfectly at home when worn.
Art that blends into everyday life
WALLACE SEWELL often draws inspiration from art. The Merino Lambswool Scarf CASSIA, for instance, takes its colors and design from the work of Italian Modernist painter Pasquale Rosa. Pasqualosa began her career as a model among Rome's artists, then studied painting herself to build her unique world. Even as abstract art gained prominence, she continued painting familiar landscapes and domestic spaces, infusing them with modern vitality through color. Her works vividly depict everyday scenes and unexpected still-life combinations, overflowing with a joy for daily life—a spirit that breathes through this scarf.
The CASSIA merino lambswool scarf features striking large stripes woven from contrasting patterns. Its name derives from the Italian word for cassia (a plant used as a spice), reflecting Pasqua Rosa's worldview where flowers add color to still lifes and domestic scenes. The rhythmic shifts in weave texture and the playfully placed accent colors add a touch of whimsy to the design. Combining various weaving techniques, each scarf is meticulously crafted, revealing a thorough attention to detail when held in hand.
Made from high-quality lambswool, it offers a gentle drape that feels soft against the skin. Lightly swaying fringe adds character to any styling. Longer than a standard scarf, it allows for various wrapping styles. This not only enhances warmth but also frees you from the hassle of constantly readjusting it while wearing.
The vibrant beauty created by the multicolored threads weaves a captivating charm that draws the eye. While autumn and winter outfits often lean toward darker tones, a scarf like this instantly brightens the look. Its relatively thin and slim design makes it easy to wear for anyone, regardless of gender. Being lightweight and gentle on the shoulders are also key points that make it a great gift recommendation. This scarf, which expands your styling possibilities, makes a delightful stylish winter gift, perfect for a close friend's birthday present.
Original and unexpected fabrics
WALLACE SEWELL is a London-based textile brand founded by textile designers Harriet Wallace and Emma Sewell.
After studying art at the Royal College of Art, widely regarded as the pinnacle of art and design education, the two developed a fascination with weaving. During their studies, they discovered how weaving allowed them to create patterns and compositions like paintings, using thread and fiber instead of paint to blend colors and control the feel and appearance of the fabric. After graduation, Harriet created interior fabrics featuring original compositions achieved through weaving techniques, while Emma, drawn to weaving compositions using shrinkable and twisted yarns, produced fabrics for fashion. At their first joint solo exhibition in 1990, they presented modern, beautiful stoles featuring intricately combined geometric patterns, attracting attention from buyers including Barneys New York.
Wallace Sewell, deeply influenced by the Bauhaus school of comprehensive design in Germany, creates works that fuse color, graphics, and extensive textile knowledge. Their philosophy centers on uniting craftsmanship with industrial production using traditional British techniques. The brand uniquely develops complex color combinations that defy conventional textile norms, captivating fans worldwide with its original color palettes and geometric patterns. Beyond WALLACE SEWELL, the studio also engages in diverse textile design projects, including upholstery fabrics for London Underground and railway seats, and creating special-edition stoles for Tate Gallery exhibitions.
