This down coat combines the clean lines of a Chester coat with substantial warmth. It uses down sourced domestically in Japan as a byproduct of waterfowl raised for meat, with cleaning also performed within Japan. This ensures reliable quality with minimal down odor. Its long length provides ample warmth, yet the design minimizes bulkiness. Perfect for everything from town use to the office, it's a winter staple that delivers year-round performance.
Every step from duck farming to production is done domestically
The down used in this coat comes from "Japan Duck". It is Cherry Valley duck down sourced from trusted farms within Japan. Raised carefully as high-quality meat ducks, they are reportedly given approximately twice the rearing period compared to cheaper ducks from overseas. This results in Japan Duck's signature feature: fully matured, large, high-quality feathers rich in warmth and elasticity. They are raised freely in clean water, clean flooring, and an environment with good sunlight and ventilation, fed without the use of chemicals. This level of quality is only possible because every step, from breeding to feather cleaning, is done entirely within Japan.
This down jacket features a design suitable for formal occasions, avoiding the typical puffy silhouette. It comes with a matching fabric belt. By omitting belt loops, the design maintains a minimalist impression while allowing versatile styling. We recommend a relaxed look: leave the buttons undone and cinch the waist with just the belt. Side slits feature concealed zippers that don't disrupt the clean design; opening them improves leg movement.
This piece was crafted by adjusting fabric and down volume to achieve the perfect fit. Since it's not an item you replace frequently, it's an outerwear choice for those who value the story and quality behind the product.
Water and Climate Essential for Premium Down
Kawada Feather's factory is located in Meiwacho, Mie Prefecture. To the west lies the Odaigahara Mountains, renowned as one of Japan's wettest regions. The massive rainfall in these mountains seeps deep underground. Over a thousand years, it washes away water-soluble minerals, emerging as low-hardness soft water, nearly devoid of minerals, flowing into the Ise Plain where the factory stands. Furthermore, dry winds blow down year-round after the rains have fallen on the mountains of the Odaigahara Mountains. It is said that the water flowing through the Ise Plain and the dry, low-humidity climate are essential for thoroughly cleaning the fine details of the feathers. The fusion of nature's blessings and Kawada Feather's proud technology enables the supply of high-quality feathers.
Committed to Feathers
KWD (Kee-Daw-Dee) is a brand born in 2021 from Kawada Feather, a specialized feather manufacturer. Since its founding in 1891, Kawada Feather has long been involved in creating products that leverage the unique properties of feathers, such as feather pens, feather dusters, and hamaya (devil-warding arrows). In the 1970s, the company studied down expertise in the United States and became one of the first in Japan to begin producing down jackets. Today, based at its factory in Meiwacho, Mie Prefecture, it remains a top-tier domestic down specialist manufacturer, continuously dedicated to improving feather quality.
One of Kawada Feather's defining characteristics is its commitment to making down visible. Because down is an invisible material, it can be easily misrepresented for quality, leading to an increase in poor-quality down being mixed in recent years. Issues like falsified product labeling and the inclusion of unclean, heavily soiled feathers have become serious problems. It was against this backdrop that KWD (K-W-D) was launched, born from the company's desire for customers to experience the superior quality of their own feathers firsthand. This sincere commitment to every step of the down process is the source of the reassurance found in KWD products.
Furthermore, the company takes its responsibility as a feather manufacturer seriously and is also focusing on initiatives to protect feathers for the future. In the current situation where short-term reared young birds are increasing and high-quality feathers are decreasing globally, the company's solution is "continuing to produce clean feathers" and "circulating high-quality feathers." They collect used feather products, re-select the scarce high-quality feathers, clean and restore them, and transform them back into new products. The company actively operates this long-term circulation system within its own factories, leveraging the inherent properties of down that can last over 100 years.
Circulating down is not merely about reusing material; it also significantly reduces the carbon dioxide emissions generated during disposal, making it a major effort to lessen environmental impact. This manufacturer is characterized by its sincere approach to every aspect, transparency backed by technology, and its ongoing commitment to passing on high-quality down to future generations.
