When adding milk to your tea or coffee, you might not usually pay much attention to the container. However, if there were a cow on the table that pours milk from its mouth when tilted, it would certainly make the act of pouring milk a lot more enjoyable. The Cow Creamer from the British pottery brand Burleigh is not only a tool for pouring milk but also an eye-catching item that draws attention just by being on the table.
Enjoy Two Flavors in One Cup
For those who love both coffee and tea, there's a delightful way to enjoy your drink: first, savor the aroma and character of the beans or tea leaves in their black or straight form, and then add milk for a different experience with your second cup. Among tea enthusiasts, the style of "first having it straight" is well-known, making it a cherished moment to enjoy on a leisurely weekend morning. This Cow Creamer fits perfectly on such breakfast tables.
Pours Milk from the Mouth, in the Shape of a Cow
The Cow Creamer has an opening on its back for filling with milk, and when tilted, it pours out from its mouth. You can transfer just the amount of cold milk from the refrigerator to the table, making it more hygienic than leaving a carton out, and it allows the milk to return to a pleasant room temperature, ensuring your drink doesn’t cool down too quickly. First-time viewers are usually surprised and then amused, making it a great conversation starter during tea time with guests. It is also microwave and dishwasher safe, allowing for easy use at your everyday dining table.
The realistic blue floral pattern is Burleigh's signature "Blue Calico." The deep blue and white contrast stands out even from a distance, with delicate patterns reminiscent of cracked ice, adorned with blossoms of the plum tree scattered across the surface. This design, depicting flowers that begin to bloom while ice still lingers, evokes a sense of spring amidst the cold. Placing this small cow-shaped creamer on a green placemat makes it look as if it’s standing in a meadow, creating a little farm on your table. It comes in a decorative box, making it a perfect gift.
Products Crafted with Traditional Techniques
Burleigh embodies the charm of old England, with some pieces even circulating as antiques, thanks to the traditional technique of "copper plate transfer" that has been in use for over 200 years.
The "copper plate transfer" process involves skilled craftsmanship, where artisans hand-engrave intricate designs onto a rolled copper plate using various needles, taking over six weeks to complete a single pattern. Ink is applied to the plate, and the design is transferred onto flat paper before being transferred to three-dimensional pottery while the ink is still wet. Each step is carried out by specialized artisans, and Burleigh is the only manufacturer that has preserved this technique to this day.
Additionally, the clay used is sourced from the UK, with a commitment to quality in raw materials. The clay is mixed with water in a device called a slip house until it reaches the right consistency, at which point it is poured into plaster molds. After being stored on drying racks for several days, the pieces are removed from the molds, completing the bisque firing. Each piece is then smoothed with a sponge, making this delicate process of creating bisque very meticulous.
Each piece of tableware, adorned with vibrant patterns, carries the warmth of being crafted by human hands, a quality that mass production today lacks. The continuous patterns may vary in color intensity and design placement, so please enjoy imagining the craftsmanship behind them.
Blessed with Rich Soil and Climate
Burleigh was born in Stoke-on-Trent, known as the home of British pottery. Established in 1851 during the Victorian era by Frederick Burgess and William Leigh, it has over 170 years of history, thanks to the abundance of coal and clay, as well as a climate suitable for pottery. Utilizing the traditional technique of "copper plate transfer," Burleigh has primarily produced tableware necessary for the customs of British tea culture. The factory is now designated as an important cultural asset, cherished by the nation, and in its production, it chooses methods that respect the earth and minimize waste.
The warm tableware from Burleigh, crafted with care by many hands, is something we hope to pass down for another 100 or 200 years.

"Burleigh" was founded by Frederick Burgess, William Leigh in 1851 (Victorian era) in Stoke-on-Trent, which is blessed with rich soil and climate suitable for pottery. Using the traditional technique of "copper transfer" from the time of its founding, we mainly made tableware necessary for the custom of English tea culture. Burleigh pottery is all made in England from the soil, and even now, about 100 craftsmen make one by one by the same method as when it was founded, such as mold manufacturing, copper plate transfer, and glazing. It is full of handmade tastes such as warm colors and a form that is familiar to the hands.
