Buttoned up, it offers a sleek look; unbuttoned, it provides a relaxed feel. The FACTORY Belgium Linen Shirt Cardigan is an item that creates dynamic movement by combining different materials for the body and sleeves. The knitted body drapes gracefully along the body, while the woven sleeves sway lightly. This contrast gives it a distinct expression that sets it apart from a simple linen garment.
Structure with a Combination of Knitted and Woven Fabrics
The body features a soft, draping knit-like texture. Made from 100% linen, the knitted finish adds stretch and flexibility to the fabric, allowing it to drape naturally with your movements. In contrast, the sleeves and front placket are made from woven linen fabric. The firmness of the woven fabric gives the cuffs a light three-dimensional quality, allowing the sleeves to move with air when you move your arms. This combination creates a balance where the body falls straight along the body while the sleeves maintain a sense of lightness. The knitted section feels cool against the skin, allowing for airflow even in hot weather, and it won’t cling to your skin when you sweat. The woven part has just the right amount of firmness while remaining lightweight, ensuring that the arm area doesn’t feel bulky. By using Belgian linen, the garment showcases the softness derived from the fine fibers and the breathability unique to natural materials.
The slightly raised band collar creates a comfortable space around the neck, ensuring that even when buttoned up, it doesn’t feel constricting. Closed, it resembles a blouse; open, it serves as a light outer layer. The relaxed silhouette pairs well with denim or wide pants for a comfortable casual style, while layering over a skirt or dress creates a light, layered look. The off-white color gives a soft impression, and when paired with black or navy bottoms, it doesn’t feel heavy. The white offers a refreshing vibe, while the black adds a chic atmosphere. The combination of knitted and woven materials creates dynamic movement in the FACTORY Belgium Linen Shirt Cardigan. The body drapes, and the sleeves sway. This contrast adds character to a single garment.
Creating a Unique Atmosphere with Our Own Hands
The brand's origins trace back to a boutique that started in 1978. Initially a store selling purchased clothing, it shifted its focus in 1983 to manufacturing all products in-house, establishing the brand "FACTORY" with a factory built behind the store to develop original wear.
Starting from a single sewing machine, the brand grew with each new member, and by 1990, in pursuit of greater originality, it began sourcing materials overseas and even established a dyeing workshop. Continuing to create meticulously crafted garments, the current model of creation, where planning, material development, manufacturing, and production are all handled in-house, was born.
All design patterns for FACTORY are created in a design studio in Tokyo. Staff with experience from collection brands and hands-on practice in pattern making create shapes through three-dimensional cutting, and through repeated sample sewing, they produce unique garments that are "not bound by trends and comfortable to wear" and "simple yet a bit unique." The garments are then produced at their own factory located in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture. This factory not only handles cutting and sewing but also conducts dyeing processes for both products and raw materials in the attached dyeing workshop. This commitment to craftsmanship reflects the historical atmosphere of Ashikaga, a region known for its textile manufacturing, ensuring that the essence of the place is embodied in the garments.
