A Japanese Knit Brand with Fans in Europe

Founded in 2007, C.T.plage is a knitwear brand with the concept of "casual yet impactful knits." Their simple designs are easy to wear in everyday life, while adding unique nuances to the silhouettes. They take care to ensure that the yarn is finished in a way that allows for as much hand-washing as possible, resulting in incredibly soft knits. The meticulous attention to detail, characteristic of Japanese women, is reflected in their knit products, which have garnered a solid fan base even in Europe, where established knit brands abound.

Designers Naomi Suwa and Mikako Kanaya have both been involved in planning within the Japanese knit industry for many years. "When I thought about wanting to create clothing itself, I realized that being a knit designer allowed me to select materials and yarns for planning. The process of turning a single thread into a product is very enjoyable, as one’s thoughts are reflected in the final piece. Even a seemingly ordinary shape can be transformed by changing one’s awareness and perspective, which is the essence of knit planning. Touching upon wearability and comfort that engage the wearer's senses is one of the greatest joys of being a designer."

The two designers, who shared these insights, pursue not only design but also the essence of the products, engaging in a wide range of tasks such as utilizing the characteristics of materials for patterns and production processes, as well as developing original materials, achieving designs that are simple yet incredibly comfortable to wear.
