As the cold deepens, there comes a season when we crave not just warmth but also expressive knits. The Yak Nordic Sweater from FACTORY combines the characteristic warmth and lightness of yak wool, featuring a geometric pattern on the chest created through lace knitting.

The Light, Plush Warmth of Yak Wool

This sweater is made from 100% yak wool sourced from the Bayan-Ölgii region of Mongolia. Living in extremely cold environments, yaks accumulate fine hair to protect themselves, which easily traps air, making it a material that balances lightness and thermal insulation. The wool is collected naturally during the shedding season through brushing, without shearing, resulting in a rare material that yields only a small amount from 100 kg of raw wool, finished with a felting process for a plush texture.

The patterned section is expressed through lace knitting, creating depth without becoming too heavy by leaving gaps in the stitches. The balloon sleeves and a length that reaches the waist create a soft silhouette, while the ribbing at the hem and cuffs adds definition. The collar is slightly high-necked, providing just the right amount of warmth around the neck. Available in three colors: gray, brown, and dark brown, it can be styled casually with denim or chinos, or paired with understated inner layers to highlight the pattern. This knit adds the warmth of yak wool and the depth of geometric patterns to your winter wardrobe.

A Unique Atmosphere Created by Our Own Hands

The brand's origins trace back to a boutique that started in 1978. Initially a store selling purchased clothing, it shifted its policy in 1983 to manufacture all products in-house, establishing the brand "FACTORY" with a factory built behind the store to develop original wear.

Starting with just a sewing machine, the brand grew as more members joined, continuing to create clothing tailored to customers' bodies. By 1990, in pursuit of greater originality, the brand began sourcing materials overseas and established a dyeing workshop. Despite its small size, the brand has maintained a commitment to quality clothing, resulting in a creative process where all planning, material development, manufacturing, and production are handled in-house.

All design patterns for FACTORY are created in a design studio in Tokyo. Staff with experience in collection brands and practical pattern-making create shapes through three-dimensional cutting, refining samples repeatedly to produce clothing that is "not bound by trends and comfortable to wear," and "simple yet a bit unique." Based on the developed patterns, garments are produced at their own factory located in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture. The commitment extends to cutting and sewing, as well as dyeing processes for both products and raw materials conducted at the attached dyeing factory. This style of craftsmanship embodies the atmosphere of Ashikaga, a region historically renowned for textile manufacturing.
