An original fabric meticulously spun in a textile factory in the UK. From WALLACE SEWELL, known for its high design quality and soft, warm feel that captivates people around the world, comes a wool scarf that is like wearable art. This slim scarf features different patterns on each side, allowing you to enjoy a variety of expressions with just one piece. With its use of multiple colors, it brings a vibrant touch, yet it blends seamlessly when wrapped around.
Art that Blends into Everyday Life
WALLACE SEWELL often draws inspiration from art, and the Merino Lambswool Scarf NOAH is no exception, as its patterns and designs are inspired by the works of British artist Tilza Garwood. Garwood studied wood engraving under the painter Eric Ravilious, who later became her husband, and pursued her unique expression while expanding her genres to marbled paper and oil paintings. While building a family, she continued to create as an artist, depicting the landscapes of everyday life and flora and fauna with humor and warmth. In 2024, WALLACE SEWELL designed two types of scarves for a retrospective exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, becoming completely captivated by the breadth and charm of her creations, and decided to dedicate a collection to her artistic world. The essence of that world lives on in NOAH.
The Merino Lambswool Scarf NOAH features an impressively intricate woven pattern. This design, developed from work for the 2024 Dulwich Picture Gallery, incorporates delicate details reminiscent of Garwood's works, with crosshatch and fine weaving patterns throughout. The background showcases a subtly textured weave, while the border features delicate floral motifs and patterns intricately combined with bold crosshatch, contrasting pinstripes, and graphic bands.
Crafted from high-quality lambswool, it offers a gentle feel against the skin without any prickliness. The lightly swaying fringe adds character to your styling. Longer than a typical scarf, it allows for various wrapping styles, enhancing warmth while freeing you from the stress of readjusting while wearing.
The beauty of the colors woven from multicolored threads has an irresistible charm that draws the viewer's gaze. While autumn and winter outfits tend to lean towards darker tones, this scarf adds a vibrant touch. Its relatively thin and slim design makes it easy to wear for anyone, regardless of gender, and its lightweight nature helps prevent shoulder strain, making it a great gift option. A scarf that expands your styling possibilities is sure to be appreciated as a stylish winter gift, such as a birthday present for a close friend.
Innovative and Unexpected Fabrics
WALLACE SEWELL is a London-based textile brand founded by two textile designers, Harriet Wallace and Emma Sewell.
Both graduates of the Royal College of Arts, regarded as the pinnacle of art and design education, they developed an interest in weaving as a medium that allows for the creation of patterns and compositions akin to painting, using threads and fibers instead of paints to blend colors and control the texture and appearance of fabrics. After graduation, Harriet focused on creating innovative compositions using weaving for interior fabrics, while Emma was drawn to the structures of woven fabrics using shrinkable and twisted threads for fashion fabrics. Their first solo exhibition in 1990 showcased modern and beautiful stoles with complex geometric patterns, attracting attention from buyers, including Barneys New York.
Influenced heavily by the Bauhaus school of design, WALLACE SEWELL embodies the philosophy of connecting craft with industrial production through traditional British techniques, merging rich knowledge of color, graphics, and textiles in their creations. They have uniquely developed complex color combinations that would typically be abandoned in conventional textile practices, and their innovative color palettes and geometric pattern designs continue to captivate fans worldwide. In addition to WALLACE SEWELL, they also engage in a wide range of textile design, including designing upholstery for London’s underground and railway seats, as well as creating special design stoles for exhibitions at the Tate Gallery.
