WALLACE SEWELL often draws inspiration from art, and the Merino Lambswool Scarf WALTON is designed with patterns and designs inspired by the works of British artist Tilza Garwood. Garwood studied woodblock printing under the painter Eric Ravilious, who later became her husband, and she pursued her unique expression while expanding her genres to marbled paper and oil painting. While building a family, she continued to create as an artist, depicting the landscapes of everyday life and flora and fauna with humor and warmth. In 2024, WALLACE SEWELL designed two types of scarves to coincide with a retrospective exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, and they were so captivated by her wide-ranging creativity and charm that they decided to dedicate the 2026 collection entirely to her artistic world. The essence of that world is alive in WALTON.

The Merino Lambswool Scarf WALTON features a rhythmically repeating pattern that reflects Garwood's marbled paper and paper craft. Dots, curves, and linear motifs are arranged in a regular pattern. The interplay of graphic dots, dashes, and zigzags creates a captivating texture and design, enhanced by the colors and contrasts that bring out its expression.

Innovative and Surprising Fabrics

WALLACE SEWELL is a London-based textile brand founded by two textile designers, Harriet Wallace and Emma Sewell.

Graduates of the Royal College of Arts, regarded as the pinnacle of art and design education, the two developed an interest in weaving as they learned to create patterns and compositions like paintings, mixing colors using threads and fibers instead of paint to control the texture and appearance of the fabric. After graduation, Harriet created innovative compositions using weaving for interior fabrics, while Emma was drawn to woven structures using shrinking and twisted threads for fashion fabrics. Their first solo exhibition in 1990 showcased modern and beautiful stoles with complex geometric patterns, attracting attention from buyers including Barneys New York.

Heavily influenced by the Bauhaus school of design, WALLACE SEWELL aims to connect craft and industrial production with British traditional techniques, merging rich knowledge of color, graphics, and textiles in their creations. They have developed unique combinations of complex colors that would typically be abandoned in conventional textile production, and their innovative color palettes and geometric designs continue to enchant fans worldwide. In addition to WALLACE SEWELL, they also engage in a wide range of textile design projects, including designing upholstery for London’s underground and railway seats, as well as creating special design stoles for exhibitions at the Tate Gallery.
