WALLACE SEWELL often draws inspiration from art, and the Merino Lambswool Scarf ANGUS is no exception, as its patterns and designs are inspired by the works of British artist Tilza Garwood. Garwood studied wood engraving under her mentor, who later became her husband, the painter Eric Ravilious, and she pursued her unique expression by expanding into marbled paper and oil painting. While building a family, she continued to create as an artist, depicting familiar scenes of everyday life and flora and fauna with humor and warmth. In 2024, WALLACE SEWELL designed two types of scarves to coincide with a retrospective exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, and they were completely captivated by the breadth and charm of her creations, deciding to dedicate the 2026 collection entirely to her artistic world. The essence of that world lives on in ANGUS.

The Merino Lambswool Scarf ANGUS features a classic stripe pattern typical of WALLACE SEWELL, with dynamic, bold color bands resonating with delicate stripes. Innovative and Unexpected Fabrics

WALLACE SEWELL is a London-based textile brand founded by two textile designers, Harriet Wallace and Emma Sewell.

Graduates of the Royal College of Arts, regarded as the pinnacle of art and design education, the two developed an interest in weaving while studying art, where they could create patterns and compositions like paintings, mixing colors using threads and fibers instead of paint to control the texture and appearance of fabrics. After graduation, Harriet created unique compositions using weaving for interior fabrics, while Emma was drawn to woven compositions using shrinkable and twisted threads for fashion fabrics. Their first solo exhibition in 1990 showcased modern and beautiful stoles with complex geometric patterns, attracting attention from buyers, including Barneys New York.

Heavily influenced by the Bauhaus school of design, WALLACE SEWELL combines craft and industrial production with British traditional techniques, integrating rich knowledge of color, graphics, and textiles into their creations. They have developed unique combinations of complex colors that would typically be abandoned in conventional textile practices, and their innovative color palettes and geometric designs continue to captivate fans worldwide. In addition to WALLACE SEWELL, they also engage in a wide range of textile designs, including upholstery for London Underground and railway seats, as well as special design stoles for exhibitions at the Tate Gallery.
