In the Fujikofu region, silk fabrics dyed with the rich spring water from Mount Fuji have been woven for centuries. The large and bold patterns created using this spring water, combined with the latest electronic jacquard weaving technology, embody Makita Shoten's dedication to craftsmanship.

Founded in 1866, Makita Shoten began by selling silk fabrics in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. After the 1950s, with the spread of synthetic fibers, the company utilized the techniques developed in dyeing to establish itself as a major production hub for unique pre-dyed umbrella fabrics. Makita Shoten also produces fabrics for Maehara Koeki Shoten, a long-established umbrella manufacturer, showcasing 150 years of history and craftsmanship in fabric production.

The most distinctive feature of Makita Shoten's parasols is that they are made by a textile manufacturer, with original production encompassing fabric design, weaving, and umbrella manufacturing. While preserving the spirit of traditional craftsmanship, Makita Shoten has continuously evolved with the acquisition of overseas techniques and the introduction of new equipment. Using electronic jacquard looms that allow for unrestricted design, they treat the warp threads as a canvas and the weft threads as paint, creating umbrellas with a variety of intricate patterns.

In a domestic market where approximately 90% of umbrellas are imported, Makita Shoten is committed to domestic production, carefully crafting each umbrella using the elegant Koshu weaving technique. The vibrant colors and the three-dimensional quality of the patterns lend a sense of luxury to the inside of the umbrella, which features an inverted design, allowing the user to enjoy the pattern as well. Additionally, the frame is tailored to the weight, shape, and fabric, meeting a UV processing standard of over 90% for UV protection.

The "Sai" series of parasols from Makita Shoten is designed for enjoyment under the summer sun, inspired by vegetables that thrive in the abundant sunlight, including corn, carrot, flower bean, napa cabbage, purple okra, enoki mushrooms, and beans. By using stretch threads that were previously unusable in conventional umbrella fabrics, the Sai series features wavy fabric patterns, a bumpy texture, and soft-colored threads that create a gentle appearance. Like vegetables that flourish under the sun's blessings, this parasol allows for a joyful relationship with sunlight.
