A parasol that vividly reproduces the reddish-purple color of the hanamame.
The design features large polka dots arranged in a cheerful and cute manner, while the harmonious shades of reddish-purple add a touch of sophistication. When closed, the fabric takes on a crumpled texture reminiscent of wrinkled material, making it a stylish and fashionable parasol.
"A parasol that brings joy to carry."
"A parasol that looks a little more elegant."
"A parasol you want to cherish."
These are the aspirations of Makita Shoten.
Delicate Craftsmanship and Commitment
In the Fujikofu region, silk fabrics dyed with the abundant spring water from Mount Fuji have been woven for centuries. The bold and large patterns created using the spring water from Mount Fuji and the latest electronic jacquard weaving technology embody Makita Shoten's dedication to craftsmanship.
Founded in 1866, Makita Shoten began by selling silk fabrics in Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo.
Since the 1950s, with the spread of synthetic fibers, the company has utilized the techniques developed in woven fabrics to establish itself as a major production hub for uniquely dyed umbrella fabrics. Makita Shoten also produces fabrics for Maehara Koeki Shoten, a long-established umbrella manufacturer, showcasing its 150 years of history in fabric creation and craftsmanship.
The most distinctive feature of Makita Shoten's parasols is that they are made by a textile manufacturer, with original production encompassing fabric design, weaving, and umbrella manufacturing. While preserving the spirit of traditional craftsmanship, Makita Shoten has continued to evolve with the acquisition of techniques from abroad and the introduction of new equipment. By using electronic jacquard weaving machines that allow for unrestricted design, they treat the warp threads as a canvas and the weft threads as paint, resulting in umbrellas adorned with various intricate patterns.
In a domestic market where approximately 90% of products are imported, Makita Shoten is committed to domestic production, carefully crafting each umbrella using the elegant Koshu weaving technique. The vibrant colors and the three-dimensional quality of the patterns create a sense of luxury, and the inside of the umbrella features a reversed pattern, allowing the user to enjoy the design as well. Additionally, the frame is tailored to the weight, form, and fabric, ensuring over 90% UV protection.
An Umbrella That Brings Joy to Everyone
The Sai series of parasols by Makita Shoten is designed for enjoyment under the summer sun, inspired by vegetables that thrive under abundant sunlight, including corn, carrots, hanamame, napa cabbage, purple okra, enoki mushrooms, and beans. By using stretch threads that were previously unusable in traditional umbrella fabrics, the Sai series features a wavy fabric pattern, a bumpy texture, and soft-colored threads that create a gentle appearance. This parasol allows for a joyful relationship with the sun, much like the vegetables that flourish under its rays.
In Japan, umbrellas are considered auspicious due to their wide-open shape, symbolizing the invitation of good fortune. There is also a cultural tradition where mothers give umbrellas to their daughters as part of their wedding trousseau, wishing for their future happiness. This parasol is highly recommended as a gift for women.
