Arabesque plate 21cm

Pottery with many lovers

Tobe ware is produced in Tobe-cho, Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, and although it is not as gorgeous as famous pottery from all over Japan, it is a warm and thick white porcelain that is supported by many people. It is a secretly popular pottery.

The 230-year-old Tobe ware began in 1777 in Tobe Town, Ehime Prefecture, surrounded by beautiful green mountains, using stone scraps to produce porcelain. The raw material is porcelain stone, and the firing temperature is generally high, around 1300 degrees Celsius, and the base material is finely baked at a high temperature, so it becomes firm and hard. It is said that the low iron content of the raw material is characterized by a smooth white background that makes beautiful paintings shine.

In Tobe-cho, Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, the ceramic industry has developed using high-quality whetstones and whetstone scraps from Iyo whetstones as raw materials.
Speaking of its characteristics
・ Soft white porcelain chubby atmosphere
・ Hand-painted indigo dyeing
・ Rounded edges

Speaking of Tobe ware, these are the shapes that you remember, and the simple and warm warmth that is a little earthy is more popular than the whiteness that is found in Arita porcelain with the same white porcelain.
In addition, the stable and solid weight gives you a sense of security and durability, and it is made so that it will not crack easily even if you stack it without hesitation, and it is sturdy and practical, which is also the reason for the popularity of Tobe ware.

Because of these characteristics, Tobe ware, which can be used without hesitation in everyday tableware, has been loved by people for many years, and after the war, it has a history of being evaluated and recognized by folk art movement activists such as Soetsu Yanagi and Bernard Leach.
In 1976, it was designated as a national traditional craft, and there are still nearly 100 kilns left. It is a pottery that has inherited the tradition of handmade and hand-painted and continues to evolve with a design that suits modern dining tables.

Among such Tobe ware, Nakata Pottery makes a vessel with a unique warmth. It is in the iron powder that is also a feature of Nakata Pottery. White porcelain was generally considered to be better if it was pure white, but the work of removing this iron powder takes a lot of time. At Nakata Pottery, by intentionally leaving this iron powder, we created a vessel with a more unique atmosphere in Tobe ware. Iron powder oxidizes during firing and appears as small black dots after firing. It also enhances the appeal of Tobe ware, which is tasty, simple and warm.

We have prepared a 7-inch plate from Nakata Pottery, which has an atmosphere that seems to be compatible with Scandinavian design.
Cuns are used in Japanese tableware, but 1 inch is 3 cm.
The 7 inch is 21 cm in diameter, and this plate is just the right size for everyday rice, miso soup, and main side dishes. It has a little depth, so you can use it for cooking with a little soup.
You can enjoy the dish with the rimmed plate, even when you have the dish, because you can see the pattern.

The Nakata Pottery vessel, which seems to give you a warmer time at your daily dining table, is recommended for gifts for new life, wedding gifts, and moving gifts.
