A rain dobby skirt infused with the ambiance of gently falling rain, this textile is rich in emotion. The warm patterns depicted on the skirt were born from a collaboration between hatsutoki and ZUTTO.
Gentle Atmosphere of Dobby Pattern
The dobby pattern on the hatsutoki×ZUTTO Rain Dobby Skirt is an original design by hatsutoki. It is a woven pattern that captures the motifs of nature felt in daily life, offering a high value that reflects careful craftsmanship. Dobby refers to a type of loom that can create intricate repeat patterns, and it is one of the most skilled techniques in Banshu weaving. By applying delicate stripes to the warp and expressing raindrops with cut dobby, it illustrates the scene of rain quietly falling to the ground. While Banshu textiles are characterized by their yarn-dyeing method, this striped section incorporates undyed threads, allowing the pattern to remain uncolored through a post-dyeing process. This pattern is set on a high-density cotton material, and ZUTTO has produced an original skirt in a custom color.
The front of the waistband features a row of small buttons for a feminine touch. With elastic on the sides, it offers a comfortable fit for a wide range of body types. The amount of gathering is kept modest to maintain a silhouette that doesn’t appear overly voluminous. The high-density fabric is crisp and breathable, making it comfortable even in summer. Available in two seasonless colors, KAHKI and NAVY, this skirt can be enjoyed from spring to autumn. It pairs beautifully with T-shirts and blouses, making coordinating outfits a delight.
New Possibilities of Banshu Textiles
hatsutoki is a brand of textiles known as Banshu weaving. Banshu textiles, primarily made of cotton, have a history of over 200 years in the northern Harima region of Hyogo Prefecture. They are characterized by the "yarn-dyeing" method, holding an 80% share of the national market for yarn-dyed fabrics. Textile-producing regions often benefit from abundant water from large rivers, and in Nishiwaki City, where hatsutoki's fabrics are created, the first-class Kakogawa River flows. This rich water contributes to the beautiful colors of the textiles, bringing out hues that can only be expressed in that region.
hatsutoki was born from the desire to convey the excitement of touching Banshu textile fabric for the first time. In a market flooded with trend-chasing, homogenized clothing where the origins of production are often unknown, hatsutoki aims to communicate the thoughts behind the creation process and the wonderful qualities of Banshu textiles that feel good against the skin. Shimada Seori Co., Ltd., which manufactures hatsutoki, has been collaborating with artisans in dyeing (yarn dyeing), preparation (yarn preparation), weaving, and finishing (texture) for 80 years in the Banshu textile region. Being located in the area allows for a close physical and mental connection with the artisans, enabling them to create "good things" together.
With a focus on creating wonderful basics that are universal and meant to be cherished for a long time, hatsutoki finds infinite possibilities in designs inspired by the surrounding natural landscapes, colors, sounds, and all sensory experiences.

We want to encounter things that we can continue to use with love for a long time and share the joy of meeting them.
ZUTTO is a select store that was started with this in mind. In the course of introducing a variety of "things," including things from Japan, things from around the world, things made by hand, things that focus on materials, and things that require technology, we sometimes find ourselves thinking, "I wish there were more of this kind of thing." We introduce original items made with a focus on the "more" part as the ZUTTO brand.
Our items range from clothing and fashion accessories to bags and kitchen tools, but what they all have in common is that they are made from materials and ingenuity that will make you want to use them for a long time. Materials that age and deepen over time make you look forward to the years to come, and semi-custom-made items that suit your tastes are easy to use and you want to keep them with you for a long time. We are a brand that supports "long-lasting use" from every aspect, with a system in place that allows for repairs and alterations whenever possible.
