Umbrella with a beautiful impression
The fabric, which can be said to be the face of an umbrella, is made in beautiful Japan that will leave an impression when you see it. Wakao's umbrellas value the delicate expressiveness of made-in-Japan textiles such as yukata fabrics and Kyoto Yuzen.
In order to make an umbrella that can be cherished throughout the life, not as an umbrella as a tool, it is important to harmonize with lightness, durability, and a beautiful form that can be opened and closed in a balanced manner.
Each material in each process is selected with great care.
The handle used for this umbrella is bamboo material. We currently use kamboku with knots that can only be made in Japan by one company. The handle that slowly bends over time has a familiar hand, beauty, and luxury. The bone part, which is the key to the form, is made of durable materials and is very lightweight.
Every time you hold it, you can feel the uniqueness of handmade wakao umbrellas. We use a woven fabric with a refreshing feeling that can feel high value in appearance. A parasol that has been UV-processed, and the umbrella of wakao (wacao) has almost never lost its UV processing as soon as you use it. The size of the bone is 47cm, but it is the perfect size for women to quickly take out and use in the city. If you keep it in your bag, it will be a reliable partner.
Japanese umbrella to be inherited
“Kasa Kobo WAKAO” was founded in 1938 by Showa Wakao, an umbrella craftsman. At that time, Tokyo was the main production area for umbrellas. Dozens of processes, from cutting the fabric to sewing, framing, handing and finishing, have been carefully made by the hands of each skilled craftsman.
Today, it is said that over 90% of umbrellas distributed in Japan are manufactured overseas. The number of craftsmen who manufacture umbrellas in Japan has decreased considerably. It seems that there are very few successors. Still, the delicate craftsmanship that is unique to Japan, and the making of umbrellas, which are sometimes important for repairs due to harsh weather, is a treasure that we want to be handed down without fail.
