Arm and leg warmers made of gara spinning by Masuhisa Textile Research Institute. Warm and comfortable, these two-in-one arm and leg warmers can be used all year round.
When using as arm warmers, put your thumb through the hole and leave your fingertips free. It is useful for preventing cold when doing detailed work such as knitting at home, and for using a smartphone. When worn without slack, it fits and covers the area from the second joint of the finger to just before the elbow. It is also highly absorbent, so you can use it as a countermeasure against air conditioning under short sleeves in the summer.
When using as leg warmers, you can stretch them out and use them longer, but we recommend using them with a loose fit around the ankles, as the layer of air will be even warmer and more cute.
The charm of airy Gara spinning yarn
Gara spinning yarn is slowly spun on a traditional Gara spinning machine. Gara spinning became popular after the war, when there was a shortage of materials and supplies. It was a spinning method that was fostered by the "spirit of reuse," which allowed short-fiber cotton to be spun into thread. After the development of Western spinning machines, efficiency became a necessity, and Gara spinning machines disappeared in Japan. However, Masuhisa Textile Research Institute has made repeated improvements to the Gara spinning machine as a spinning method that best brings out the good qualities of cotton, and it is now possible to spin long-fiber cotton. This improvement allows the cotton to be slowly spun into thread without putting stress on it, resulting in a soft, warm fabric that is fluffy and airy.
When you stroke the surface of fabric made with Gara spinning yarn, it feels fluffy and airy. A unique irregularity that cannot be felt with Western spinning machines is born only from Gara spinning. When I first touched this product, I felt that it was actually very natural for the skin. More than being organic cotton, the yarn is soft and gentle on the skin. Once you experience the comfort that makes you want to rub your cheek against it, you will be hooked on Gala spun yarn.
Products made from yarn that has been carefully spun slowly over time are also extremely comfortable to use. In addition to the feel, you can feel the unique qualities of cotton, such as coolness in summer and warmth in winter, resistance to washing, and low static electricity. The appeal of cotton products is that they can be used comfortably all year round.
Make and use with care
Masuhisa Dyeing and Weaving Research Institute produces products made from yarn that has been carefully spun by hand. The brand's philosophy is to create products that enrich people's lives and hearts, aiming for a world where people can live like human beings. Questioning the era of mass production and mass consumption, they take the time to carefully craft their products, using them with care and returning them to nature as much as possible without throwing them away. And above all, they create products with the comfort of the user in mind.
Gala spun yarn is produced in Shandong Province, China, with whom they have had a partnership since the brand was founded. It is difficult to grow long-staple cotton in Japan due to the climate, but the cotton grown by trusted farmers on land that has never been treated with pesticides or fertilizers is packed with the blessings of nature and is used to create products that come into direct contact with our skin.

MASUHISA SOMEORI KENKYUSHO which produces a product made of yarn carefully spun one by one by human hands. The founder of the brand, Mr. Masahisa Shibata, was born in a family with a cotton dyeing factory and used to run a yarn trader. This brand was born when I met a natural dyeing factory that runs counter to the times at a small textile factory in Niigata during the mass production period of the high economic growth period.
Contract farms in Shandong Province, China, have not used pesticides and fertilizers ever since they started farming long ago. Fabrics made by hand spinning yarn slowly with a power loom are tasteful gems full of the benefits of nature.
