[Staff Favorite] The STANDARD SUPPLY FANNY PACK lets you go hands-free in comfort. A bag that fits your body so well, it moves with you

On my days off, I always want to move around freely. That's why I've mostly relied on shoulder bags. They keep both hands free, and it's easy to grab what I need from inside. Plus, since I prefer a feminine style, shoulder bags have always matched my look well.

But lately, body bags have caught my attention. The reason is simple: since I've been spending more time outdoors these days—walking for long stretches or riding a bike—I started wondering if a body bag might actually be easier to use when I'm being active. Still, body bags always struck me as a bit masculine, and I worried whether one would go with the clothes I already own. With those concerns in mind, I chose the FANNY PACK from STANDARD SUPPLY.

Once I actually started using it, I discovered all sorts of things—why it's shaped the way it is, the fabric of the bag, and small details in its design. This time, I'd like to share my review of the FANNY PACK as someone who uses it regularly.

FANNY PACK(限定カラー STONE)

A fit you just don't get with a shoulder bag

After buying it, I decided to try it out right away and put the FANNY PACK on—and what surprised me most was the fit.

With a shoulder bag, you either extend the strap down to hip level and wear it crossbody, or carry it as a single-shoulder bag on one side. Either way, the bag itself tends to sway back and forth as you walk. The FANNY PACK, being a body bag, fits snugly against your body instead, as you'd expect.

What's more, the bag itself is very lightweight, and unlike a shoulder bag—where all the weight rests on one shoulder—the load here seems to distribute across other parts of the body as well. The result is a bag so light it barely feels like you're wearing it at all.

STANDARD SUPPLY is known for its lightweight, crisp-rustling 64N/C cloth (a blend of 60% cotton and 40% nylon). It's light yet remarkably durable—ideal material for a bag—and wearing the FANNY PACK really lets you feel what makes 64N/C cloth special. Even while walking, it feels like wearing a perfectly-sized pair of shoes: the bag doesn't shift from your torso at all, becoming almost one with your body. This fit was what surprised me most and made me think, "Oh, wow!"

The distinctive crescent-moon shape is also designed to suit a woman's slimmer torso compared to a man's, so there's no worry about the body bag looking out of place. Since the bag has relatively little gusset depth, it also loses much of that masculine impression, giving it a unisex feel that anyone can wear.

It's compact, but how much can it actually hold?

The FANNY PACK is a relatively slim bag with little gusset room, but when I lined up the items I usually carry, I found it actually holds more than I expected.

A wallet, smartphone, notebook, handkerchief, mask pouch, and similar items all fit without any trouble, as long as each one is on the smaller side. Small things that are easy to lose, like lip balm or earphones, or items whose lids might pop open, like hand sanitizer, go into the small interior pocket on the back panel.

That said, this might already be on the fuller side of what the bag can hold. If you put in something with sharp, angular edges, the shape tends to show through the outside of the bag, which tells me this is really a bag best suited to minimal, streamlined belongings.

One feature I've found genuinely useful is the zippered pocket on the outer back panel. It only fits slim items, but that's exactly where I keep my mask pouch. It's handy when I want to keep something separate from the rest of my belongings, and the slim shape turns out to be just right for that purpose. This pocket would also work well for valuables you don't need to reach for very often.

A shape that makes it easy to grab your things, in a size that never gets in the way

These days I bring the FANNY PACK with me wherever I go, but it's especially handy when I'm shopping or riding my bike. When I'm out picking up daily necessities or groceries, having the FANNY PACK means I can carry a shopping bag in each hand, which I find incredibly convenient.

It's also easy to use when paying at checkout—I can simply spin the bag around to the front of my body to reach my wallet. The zipper opens up wide, so I can see everything inside clearly and find whatever I need right away.

By the way, the wallet I use is the PAL OVAL ZIP TOP CASE S, also from STANDARD SUPPLY. Sticking with the same brand keeps the overall look cohesive, and since it's a mini wallet, it's just the right size for the compact FANNY PACK.

I also bring it along whenever I ride my bike. The FANNY PACK was originally designed as a fanny pack (waist bag) worn by hikers and cyclists alike, and that outstanding fit makes it perfectly suited to cycling.

With a large bag, it can get in the way while pedaling a bicycle, and with a shoulder bag there's the worry of it catching on the tire, but with a FANNY PACK you don't need to worry about any of that. Even when riding a bicycle with a basket, if you wear the FANNY PACK on your back, there's no need to take the bag on and off, so you can start pedaling right after getting on—and it's also handy when your load increases while shopping.

Since the FANNY PACK has a buckle, you don't have to pull the bag over your head every time you put it on or take it off—you can fasten and unfasten it right in front of you. This turns out to be surprisingly convenient; for example, even when you're wearing a hat or helmet, or a thick coat, you can easily put it on and take it off.

Some points you might be curious about with the FANNY PACK

・Does it also suit a skirt style?

FANNY PACK(限定カラー STONE)

The FANNY PACK isn't a thick body bag with a strong presence, but rather a simple, natural-looking bag, so I think it's easy to pair with feminine styles too. When matched with your usual skirt style, it gives off a slightly androgynous, sporty vibe. It blends in nicely when combined with menswear-like items such as sneakers.

・What's the recommended way to store it?

With the 64N/C cloth, wrinkles can remain if pressure is applied for a long time. For this reason, when storing it, we often close the zipper and hang it up so that odd wrinkles don't form. Not leaving items inside it all the time is also a secret to keeping it looking clean, I think.

・Is it also water-resistant?

FANNY PACK(限定カラー STONE)

The 64N/C cloth has a water-repellent finish, so it will repel a bit of water or rain. That said, since some parts use natural leather, and moisture can soak in if exposed for a long time, it's better to avoid using it on rainy days. If it does get wet, wipe away the moisture with a towel, reshape it, and let it dry thoroughly.

Bonus: STANDARD SUPPLY's lightweight & compact bags

STANDARD SUPPLY offers, in addition to the FANNY PACK, a variety of lightweight & compact bags in different shapes. Please choose according to your intended use and your own style.

▶︎For those who prefer shoulder bags.WEEKEND SHOULDER

WEEKEND SHOULDER(限定カラー STONE)

The WEEKEND SHOULDER is a simple shoulder bag made of 64N/C cloth. Despite its compact appearance, it has enough gusset to fit a paperback book or a small water bottle. The shoulder strap comes with a urethane foam pad so it won't dig into your shoulder.

▶︎Also great as a bento bag.B TOTE/XS

B TOTE/XS (NAVY)

A small handbag you can carry by slipping it over your wrist. Because the bottom is given a good amount of width, you can put in a bento box without it tipping over. It has enough capacity for a long wallet or a folding umbrella, and comes with a flap that hides the contents of the bag.

▶︎If you want to carry only your valuables.POCKET SHOULDER

POCKET SHOULDER(STEEL GREY)

An ultra-compact shoulder bag that could be called the smallest size in the brand's lineup. In addition to the main space, it has a front pocket, so it can hold valuables like a mini wallet, keys, and a smartphone. It's handy when you want to carry just your valuables for something like a quick lunch outing or while traveling. We also recommend using it as a dedicated storage case for a camera or charging cables.

▶︎If you want something even smaller than the FANNY PACK.WAIST BAG

WAIST BAG(限定色 VALENCIA)

Compared to the FANNY PACK, this has a narrower width, but it's a body bag that also has a separate pocket on the outside. Since the strap is thinner, it's a bag that's easy to pair with more feminine styles.

▶︎Also recommended as a sub bag.BOAT SHOULDER S

BOAT SHOULDER(DARK NAVY)

A simple shoulder bag consisting of just a main space with an inner pocket. With its thin strap and compact width, it's even lighter than the WEEKEND SHOULDER. When not in use, it can be flattened and put into your main bag, so it's recommended as a sub bag for when you're traveling or when your load increases.
