A long-sleeve cut-and-sew top suited to the warming weather. If you want a piece that earns its place in your wardrobe through frequent use, it's worth choosing something with a basic design that still feels high quality. And while a simple cut-and-sew top can easily fall into "the same look every time," knowing the characteristics of each style opens up more possibilities for coordination.
This time, we've picked out three cut-and-sew tops from CHANTECLAIR. Each has a simple design, but they differ in shape, fit and feel, and each lends itself to different styling. See if you can find the one that suits your own clothes and style.
CHANTECLAIR handles everything—from sourcing materials to patternmaking, dyeing, sewing and packaging—at its own factory in France. Another notable point is that the cut-and-sew tops ZUTTO carries are shaped and sized to fit the Japanese body, making them easier to wear. Here are the three styles we've picked out.
The first is the Wide Long Sleeve, with an overall relaxed silhouette. The cotton fabric, slightly firm and with a sense of thickness, is what's known as tenjiku fabric, woven from supple, sturdy two-ply yarn, giving it a crisp, textured feel to wear.
Model height: 162cm
Once on, it reveals a drop-shoulder design that falls naturally off the shoulders. There's plenty of room around the arms and body width, making it easy to move in. On the 162cm-tall model, the sleeve length shows just a little of the wrist for a clean look, while still being long enough not to get in the way during everyday tasks. The neckline, meanwhile, opens up to about collarbone level.
While the fit is relaxed overall, the rounded shoulder line creates a feminine silhouette, and the way it subtly reveals the décolletage and wrists is perhaps its most defining feature.
The second is the Three-Quarter Sleeve Cut-and-Sew. Its key features are the three-quarter-length sleeves that clearly show the wrists, and a body with a different length in front and back. The fabric is the same 16-count twisted tenjiku fabric used in the Wide Long Sleeve—supple, with just enough thickness that there's no worry of it being see-through.
Model height: 162cm
Compared with the Wide Long Sleeve introduced above, you can clearly see that the sleeve length here shows the wrists and arms more distinctly. The neckline has a curve to it, but sits closer to a slightly higher boat neck shape.
Model height: 165cm
But its most distinctive feature is the back view. The back panel is long enough to cover the hips, and the fit stays relaxed from the waist down to the hem, making it ideal for covering areas you'd rather not show. With its three-quarter sleeves for a cool, breezy feel while still concealing the parts you're conscious of, it's a cut-and-sew top that does double duty.
The third cut-and-sew top is the simple Crew Neck Long Sleeve. Compared with the Wide Long Sleeve and the Three-Quarter Sleeve Cut-and-Sew, it uses a rib-knit fabric that feels gentler against the skin and softer overall. With its plump texture and stretch, it offers a comfortable fit without ever feeling constricting.
Model height: 162cm
Compared with the other two, you can see that the body and sleeves fit more closely here. That makes it comfortable to wear as an inner layer as well, since it won't bunch up or feel bulky under other clothes. The neckline is cut a little wider, open enough to show the collarbone clearly.
Now that you know the characteristics of each cut-and-sew top, let's look at how to wear each one to make the most of its features and expand the range of outfits you can create.
First, the Wide Long Sleeve. Thanks to its roomy sleeves and body and rounded shape, this top looks complete on its own—no layering required—so you can enjoy pairing it with all kinds of bottoms.
Wide Long Sleeve (BLANC (White))・Long Swing Skirt (NAVY STRIPE)・Sandals Belflex・Brisa 4-Dent Campaign Hat (Panama Hat)・Necklace WIRI TRIANGLE
Here it's paired with a breezy swing skirt. Since the top is wide, tucking the hem into the waistband when pairing it with a soft, billowy bottom lets you create a clean A-line silhouette while still feeling relaxed. Adding sandals that show a bit of bare skin at the feet gives the whole look a light, airy impression.
Wide Long Sleeve (GRIS CHINE (Heather Gray))・Men's Salt Shrinking Burberry Pants・MANTERO Silk Scarf (46×46)・Espadrille Sandals ETURA ANTE CAMEL・Micro Shoulder Bag Small
If you choose a wide long sleeve in a plain color, it also suits a more polished style. Try tucking the hem into straight-line pants to create a compact silhouette—this makes your waist appear higher and gives you a longer-looking line. If you find the cut-and-sew top a bit too simple on its own, we also recommend adding accessories like a necklace or scarf around the neckline.
Next up is the three-quarter sleeve cut-and-sew top.
The hem is square and clean-cut in front, while the back features a longer, rounded asymmetrical hem—a design that helps conceal areas around the waist and hips that many people are self-conscious about. This makes it especially useful for hiding your backside when paired with slim-fit pants, or for keeping your silhouette in check during active outdoor pursuits.
Three-Quarter Sleeve Cut-and-Sew (BLANC)・Compact Mini Fleece-Lined Easy Pants・High-Cut Sneakers RORAIMA OLIVE BLACK・Big Classic Tote
When pairing with slim-fit pants, leaving the hem completely untucked can look a bit loose, but tucking in just the front creates an effortlessly stylish impression—while the back still keeps your figure covered. Choosing pants that taper toward the ankle also helps everything come together nicely, even with statement footwear like sneakers. If your clothing is in basic colors, opt for shoes or a bag with a bit more design flair.
Three-Quarter Sleeve Cut-and-Sew (BLANC/GRIS CHINE)・UNISEX Packable Windbreaker Red・Baker Shorts・Trekking Boots NEGRO
Here's a style for a day spent outdoors. A striped cut-and-sew top gives off a casual vibe and pairs perfectly with an outdoorsy nylon jacket and khaki pants. Since the top has a relaxed fit, it's a good idea to keep the bottom half slim—try pairing it with leggings, for example.
One of the great things about the three-quarter sleeve cut-and-sew top is that it fully covers your backside even when you take off your outer layer and move around. Since it stays in place whether you're bending down or reaching up, it's a reliable choice for active days.
Finally, the crew neck long sleeve, distinguished by its close fit.
Because it fits softly and closely to the body, it doesn't bulk up even when layered with other clothing, helping you maintain a clean silhouette. The neckline opens up slightly, so it also suits more refined, elegant styles.
Crew Neck Long Sleeve (ECRU)・Cricket Cropped Cardigan・Men's Salt Shrinking Burberry Pants・Clutch Bag Karina・Pointed Espadrille Pumps TIERRA
The crew neck long sleeve is recommended for days when you want to layer a cardigan on top for a polished look. Its soft fabric has a gentle appearance that pairs beautifully with feminine pieces like cardigans. Keep the overall color palette cohesive, and bring in a single accent color—like this cardigan—for a clean, refreshing impression.
Crew Neck Long Sleeve (NOIR)・Garage Coat BEIGE・Unisex Fleece-Lined Sweatpants GRAY・WALSH Sneakers Horwich BLK/SIL・DAILY DAYPACK
Here's a style for a day at the gym. It pairs cleanly with sweatpants, and there's no need to worry about bulkiness even when you layer a jacket on top. Though the crew neck long sleeve gives off a polished impression at first glance, it's a versatile piece that works equally well with sporty and casual styles.
Crew Neck Long Sleeve (ASH CHINE)・JEFFERS Fleece-Lined Hoodie・Combination Skirt CLAY RED&CARRIGAHORIG・WALSH Sneakers Horwich BLK/SIL
It also pairs effortlessly with a softly flowing long skirt. Combined with a hoodie and sneakers, the look turns casual, but since the crew neck long sleeve opens up enough to reveal the collarbone, it still carries a touch of femininity. Compared to the wide cut-and-sew top, this style is easier to pair with long skirts and wide-leg pants like these.
