These days, as mornings and evenings grow chillier, we find ourselves wondering how to adjust what we wear or cover ourselves with at night. As autumn turns to winter, we add layer upon layer of bedding, but having a single "go-to piece" that works as your foundation brings peace of mind. Like Linus from Peanuts (Snoopy) and his beloved blanket, we'd like to introduce an item that could become your own blanket you can never let go of.
That item is the 8-layer gauze blanket.
Even thin gauze, when woven differently and layered eight times, becomes a gauze blanket that traps air well and offers excellent warmth. It combines a plump volume with a fluffy lightness, making it a wonderful choice not only for adults but also as a coverlet for children. We asked Heart Co., Ltd., which runs safo, a brand known for bedding made with carefully selected materials and manufacturing methods, to create this ZUTTO original gauze blanket.

The reason we asked for this original creation is that our staff, who loves using the 8-layer gauze blanket, was so moved by its plumpness and comfort that it became something they couldn't be without year-round. Furthermore, when we asked about the manufacturing process, we found that the maker's commitment to values beyond mere productivity directly connects to why one would want to keep using it for years to come. This is a piece that embodies both comfort and conviction.
One of its major distinguishing features is the weaving method. While most multi-layer gauze blankets are made by stacking several identical layers of gauze and sewing the edges together, the 8-layer gauze blanket is woven as gauze while simultaneously being built up into eight layers—a manufacturing method requiring extremely advanced technique. The thickness of the thread is also varied: thicker thread is woven into the inner layers for volume, while finer thread is used for the parts that touch the skin, so that it feels gentle against the body.
Cross-section of the gauze. You can see that the outer layers have a tight weave, while the inner layers have a looser weave.
In addition, the weaving itself is deliberate: the outer-facing gauze is finely woven for a pleasant feel against the skin, while the inner layers are intentionally woven more coarsely. The technique of binding these eight layers of differing density into a single gauze blanket is truly the work of a master craftsman. Weaving the delicate, easily-broken cotton thread on machines with strictly controlled humidity requires the intuition of a seasoned artisan.
Because the gauze layers trap air, even this thin gauze stays warm year-round, and the softness of the cotton feels so pleasant that you'll want to keep using it as the first layer closest to your body even in the depths of winter. Just one wash noticeably changes the fluffiness, showing clearly how a layer of air has formed within it.

Even though the fabric layers increase to eight, the varied thread thickness keeps it light, so beyond using it in the bedroom, you can keep it ready on the arm of your sofa and grab it to drape over your lap during family time in the living room—no need to go fetch it from the bedroom when the kids are lounging on the floor, either.
The color chosen for this ZUTTO original is a gray with a slight tinge of light blue. It blends gently with clean off-white or white bedding, and its pale hue beautifully expresses the soft, fluffy texture of the gauze.
