A pajama you'll want to wear all summer, made from organic cotton gauze with an exceptional touch

What do you wear to sleep on summer nights?

When it's hot, many people just throw on a T-shirt or camisole with shorts

and drift off to sleep in that outfit,

but wearing proper pajamas to bed is still essential for good-quality sleep.

Wanting something comfortable to wear through the muggy heat of summer,

this time we created a pajama together with Ten-i-muhou,

the organic cotton brand. 

・・・Ten-i-muhou・・・

Ten-i-muhou is a comprehensive organic products brand that makes goods using

cotton, linen, and wool that have been certified as organic.

The founder learned that about 25% of all the harmful chemicals

used in agriculture worldwide are applied to cotton cultivation, even though

cotton fields make up only 3% of farmland globally. Upon learning this fact,

the founder launched the brand with "being organic" and

"aiming for the highest quality" as its guiding principles.

They use organic materials certified by internationally trusted certification bodies

authorized by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements), and maintain

a strict system that manages everything from raw material production to the finished product.

They travel not only to the farms where the raw cotton is grown, but also to the spinning mills,

checking the quality of the materials with their own eyes and hands, and beginning the

production process only after selecting the better materials—a thoroughness that defines their approach. 

Skin exposed to UV rays and sweat in summer is subjected to

a far harsher environment than we might imagine.

What you want to wrap around your freshly bathed skin is

something soft and gentle, that envelops your body in a light, airy embrace.

Even among organic cottons, fabrics vary greatly.

From the many fabrics Ten-i-muhou offers, we chose their double gauze material.

Gauze is a fabric made by loosely twisting cotton threads and weaving them loosely in alternating warp and weft.

It's known for its excellent moisture absorption, quick-drying properties, and breathability.

Gauze is often praised for how well it absorbs sweat, making it

the ideal fabric for summer pajamas.

Also, because it's woven loosely, the threads sit at a lower density,

giving the fabric a "lightness" and "softness" that feel almost

like you're wrapped in air—another one of its appeals.

The double gauze used here is one that Ten-i-muhou originally developed for baby products.

Seeking minimal irritation and a pleasant touch against the skin, it's woven from

extremely fine single-ply thread, 40-count.

And this thread is an original thread made exclusively by Ten-i-muhou.

Cotton, the raw material for the thread, has its own individuality—differing

depending on the soil and climate where it grew, and varying greatly from harvest to harvest, as a product of nature.

For this reason, Ten-i-muhou believes that thread-making that makes the most of these cotton characteristics

essentially determines the feel of the finished product. Decisions like "how many times to twist the thread,"

"whether to use single-ply or double-ply thread," and "whether to keep the thickness uniform or vary it"

are all ultimately made based on the intended use and desired texture of the final product.

"A fabric that looks ordinary, but is anything but."

This is the ideal of weaving that Ten-i-muhou strives for. 

Double gauze, made by layering gauze fabric, creates a layer of air

that provides excellent breathability,

while also quickly absorbing sweat when you perspire.

Because Ten-i-muhou's cotton undergoes minimal chemical stress

from raw material through processing,

it retains the natural qualities of raw cotton.

Its absorbency increases with repeated washing, and when air-dried,

it becomes even fluffier and softer. 

ー A boat neck that doesn't feel constricting

The boat neck design wasn't chosen just for its cute appearance—

we designed it to avoid any feeling of pressure, since it's worn while sleeping.

Many people find collared pajamas uncomfortable, feeling tight around the neck even with the buttons undone.

This pajama has a boat neck with a wide-open neckline, so

there's no tightness when putting it on or taking it off, nor any stuffy feeling around the neck while sleeping.

ー French sleeves for comfort and ease of movement

For the sleeves, even in summer, sleeveless designs can leave your shoulders

feeling chilly, which is a concern,

but then again, short sleeves like a T-shirt's can feel tight under the arms

and restrict movement while you sleep.

With that in mind, we decided on French sleeves.

French sleeves have no seam where the sleeve attaches to the body—

the sleeve is cut as one continuous piece with the bodice.

Since this design gently covers the shoulders and upper arms while opening up all the way to the underarms,

it was a perfect fit for a pajama meant to feel relaxed and roomy.

ー Pant length designed to prevent chilling

On a woman who is 158cm tall, the pant length falls about halfway between the ankle and the knee.

Even in summer, sleeping in shorts can leave your entire legs feeling cold

the moment the air conditioner kicks in, don't you find?

When large muscles like those in the thighs get cold, it can lead to chilling throughout the whole body.

Since summer chilling connects directly to winter chilling, we made

this pajama's pant length about calf-length.

On someone about 165cm tall, it falls just a bit below the knee.

ー Two colors to choose from

The colors are gray and blue, both featuring a border pattern.

A calm, gentle shade of grey that anyone can wear with confidence.

Blue is a brighter sky-blue tone, giving a refreshing impression that's perfect for summer. 

The waist features an elastic band plus a flat drawstring.

・Avoid using bleach and fabric softener

Bleach and fabric softener can damage organic cotton (cotton grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers) fabric

and cause fuzzing, so please avoid using them.

Also, organic cotton has a property of becoming

more absorbent and softer with repeated washing.

Using fabric softener may impair these natural properties

of organic cotton, so we don't recommend it.

・Tips for drying

Using a dryer is not recommended, as it can cause the fabric to shrink or become damaged.

Also, direct sunlight may cause discoloration or stiffening,

so please dry in a well-ventilated, shaded spot.
