What happens when you mix and match ZUTTO's original wear? Our staff put it to the test—here's how they styled each item

Even when choosing the very same piece of clothing, how each person "seasons" it is entirely up to them. The same silhouette can take on many different expressions depending on who wears it and what they pair it with. ZUTTO's original wear proposes "clothes to love for a long time," crafted from quality fabric with simple yet thoughtful details that make the wearer look more attractive. While the theme is "something that suits anyone," regardless of age or taste, you might still wonder what kind of styling would emerge from two people with genuinely different tastes.

This time, we selected original wear that debuted this season and had two different staff members style it around the theme of "How would I put this together myself?" This is our newly shot mix-and-match feature.

These two, whose tastes might seem like polar opposites at first glance, both styled the same original wear pieces. Let's take a look at how their outfits turned out.

Wear it alone, or as a layer. The Supima Cotton Double Gauze Shirt

The first piece is the [Supima Cotton Double Gauze Shirt], made together with ao, the gauze specialists, for a gentle, comfortable feel. It's a basic white shirt, but full of thoughtful touches—blouse-like details at the cuffs, a wider neckline—making it a truly special piece. Since it can be worn year-round, it's a basic item worth keeping in your wardrobe.

Since I like a simple look, I wore the shirt buttoned up all the way. I chose size 【1】. I paired it with a tight skirt for a compact silhouette overall. Thanks to the gauze texture and the compact collar, it doesn't feel too formal, and I think it gives off just the right amount of casual ease.

I paired a print T-shirt and denim, which can easily look too casual, with the shirt in size 【2】, deliberately layering it on top as an outer piece. Since this shirt is so light and airy, it works perfectly as a layer. Print T-shirts can sometimes look a bit too youthful depending on how you style them, but the shirt's calm, understated texture pulled the whole outfit together with a sense of sophistication.

ao, a factory brand born from a sewing plant in Itoigawa, Niigata Prefecture, keeps processing to a minimum in order to stay true to the gauze's natural texture and its "true gentleness" against the skin. We at ZUTTO, deeply drawn to ao's approach to making things, worked closely with them—through many discussions and prototypes—to create this gauze wear series.

Changing expression depending on what you pair it with: the Heavyweight T-Shirt Dress

Next up is a casual T-shirt dress. When you touch it, you'll find it's a thick, substantial fabric, yet it's supple rather than stiff. The yarn used is "combed yarn," a premium cotton yarn. With little fuzz and long fiber length, it has a characteristic sheen. Beyond its solid thickness, the quality material's suppleness creates a feminine silhouette, making this a dress that can be the star of any coordinate.

Since this dress's fabric is so supple, even though the shape is casual, once you put it on, it drapes beautifully and pulls the whole look together elegantly. Because it's simple, I think a statement necklace really stands out against it. I chose a stable heel for balance, but paired it with T-strap sandals to bring in a dressier feel overall.

Staff M:

Dresses are so comfortable since they're loose and don't constrict the body, aren't they? This time I paired it with my own leggings for even easier movement. Since the fabric is thick and not see-through, I love not having to worry about what I wear underneath. Evenings can still be a bit chilly, so I added our original stole as an accent color that also helps with temperature control. When the sleeves are roomy, it limits the shapes of outerwear you can layer on top, so a stole that can be worn as a wide snood comes in handy.

Heavyweight T-shirts were originally more common in menswear. They're easy for everyday wear since they don't cling to the body's lines and the inner layer doesn't show through, but we wanted to create something that keeps that easygoing, casual quality while also expressing feminine elegance. With that idea in mind, we created this series using high-quality, domestically made fabric.

What will you make the star of your outfit? Brushed Tenjiku Skirt

A softly swaying asymmetrical skirt. The comfortable brushed tenjiku (jersey knit) fabric has excellent moisture absorption, so it stays breathable even when you sweat—perfect for the coming season. By deliberately making this relaxed-feeling fabric skirt asymmetrical, the drape appears across the whole skirt, creating a clean, refined silhouette.

Since the skirt's shape is a bit distinctive, I chose a basic NAVY BLUE for the color. I also added drape to the top to create a relaxed feel throughout. Since the cut-and-sew top is a vivid color, I kept the other accessories more muted. The skirt already makes a strong statement through its silhouette alone, so it balanced out nicely even against a bold-colored top.

Since it's such a beautiful color, it works as an accent against the monochrome clothes I already own. Thanks to the asymmetrical silhouette, it comes together stylishly even with a simple top, bag, and sneakers. I love how stretchy and soft it is—it feels great to wear. Because the material has a relaxed feel, it's easy to pair with casual coordinates like sneakers, too.

Easy for women to wear while avoiding too masculine a look, these tapered chino pants narrow toward the hem. Below the knee, the seam beside the calf is patterned as if twisted slightly toward the front, with a three-dimensional cut based on ergonomics that follows the knee's natural movement.

The zipper comes from the oldest zipper manufacturer in the US, Universal Fastener Company, reimagined for the modern day

Staff T:

For the oversized shirt dress, I chose a just-right size 1. Since the pants have such a clean silhouette, they also work well worn under something like a dress. The seam peeking out from under the dress adds a bit of movement to an otherwise simple style.

Staff M:

Size 1 fits too, but I deliberately chose size 2 to wear it loose, in a sarouel-pants style. Roll up the hem and it also pairs well with high-top sneakers. I used the orange of the belt and bag as an accent for the coordinate.

The fabric is a joint development between FOB FACTORY and a weaving mill in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, that specializes in sturdy workwear fabrics and supplies well-known overseas brands as well. One of its distinguishing features is the VATDYE (vat dyeing) process applied to the fabric—while highly resistant to detergents and colorfast, this dyeing method also makes the fabric prone to developing "atari" (the faded areas often seen on denim and similar fabrics) with wear. As you wear them more, they develop a vintage character that's uniquely your own, making these truly chinos that you "grow" with.
