【Staff Favorite】Cold tea whenever you want it. Make it in the morning, enjoy it until night with the STELTON long-selling jug.

A purchase review in which our staff, who check and know ZUTTO's products better than anyone, passionately introduce the items they've bought.

Today's item: EM77 Vacuum Jug / STELTON

My day, Staff M, always starts with brewing tea. Since I work from home and am there all day, I've made it a habit to prepare what I'll be drinking that day each morning.

Ever since I started working from home, STELTON's "EM77 Vacuum Jug" has joined our household and, from the very day it arrived, has been on our table every single day without fail. Let me share why I decided to get a so-called "thermos" with cold- and heat-retention functions, and how I actually use it.

How a staff member uses the Vacuum Jug – Keeping Drinks Cold –

Originally, I used a pot for tea (something like a carafe) that I'd chill in the refrigerator after brewing at home, but one day I dropped it and it broke, so I started looking for a replacement. At that point, I took stock of the things I'd found inconvenient about the tea pot I'd been using.

・It was too big (the one I loved was 2L, and I sometimes couldn't finish it in a day)

・It took up too much space in the fridge (a large capacity means a large size, so it got in the way in the refrigerator door pocket...)

・Once winter came, it had no role to play, and it went unused for half the year

So, thinking about this inconvenience in reverse, and considering what kind of pot I'd actually want to use, I came up with the following:

・A capacity I can finish in a day (so I can wash it daily, and the flavor doesn't decline)

・No need to put it in the fridge (a thermos-type with cold/heat retention functions; and since it would be left out, something with a good design too)

・Something usable year-round (for both cold and hot drinks)

→And that's how I arrived at STELTON's EM77 Vacuum Jug.

Here's how I use it day to day.

When I wake up in the morning, I choose from among various teas, thinking, "What should I drink today?"

The vacuum jug I own is the 1L type (actual capacity is about 850ml), so I boil that much water, brew the tea a bit strong, and let it cool.

After finishing breakfast and getting ready for the day, once the tea has cooled, I add ice to chill it further (since the vacuum jug can't hold ice directly, I chill it beforehand rather than putting ice straight into the jug), and then pour it into the vacuum jug.

*Actually, I have put ice directly in before. The manufacturer doesn't recommend it, so please do so at your own risk!

The vacuum jug has just the right presence — slim and unobtrusive, yet stable enough to leave standing around. I keep it on the table all day, pour tea into my favorite cup, and top it up whenever I drink some.

Because it keeps things cold for so long, I can enjoy cold, delicious tea all day without having to brew it again and again, which makes for a very comfortable routine. Lately, as a precaution against heatstroke, I've been making a point of drinking fluids frequently even indoors, so I appreciate having this jug all the more.

Unlike a carafe or pot, there's no need to put it in the fridge, and beyond keeping the fridge nice and tidy, there's another benefit I've discovered. My child can pour tea into their own cup whenever they want to drink, without asking me, "Can you get the tea from the fridge?"

Another great point is that the vacuum jug comes with two types of lids. One is the Rocker Stopper, which opens and closes automatically just by tilting the jug so you can pour with one hand; the other is the screw-type Picnic Stopper, which doesn't leak.

When I'm at home, I originally intended to use the Rocker Stopper, which lets you pour with one hand, but since I keep the jug on the same table where I have my laptop open, I worried about what would happen to the laptop if the jug ever tipped over and spilled. So in the end, I've been using the Picnic Stopper all along.

Here, we'd like to share a question we received from a customer who was considering a purchase. Since this is likely something people thinking of buying may wonder about, we hope it's helpful as reference.

Q. I'm interested in the Vacuum Jug, but does it drip when you pour a drink from it?

A. The spout juts out just slightly, like a penguin's beak, and has a U-shaped form that makes pouring easy. Because the liquid gathers toward the center as it falls, it really does pour smoothly. That said, I can't say it never drips at all. However, it rarely drips heavily or runs down the body of the jug.

Q. How long does the cold-keeping effect last for drinks? Could you give us a rough idea?

A. I haven't measured the temperature precisely, so please take this only as a rough reference, but even six hours after adding ice in the morning to make the drink ice-cold, it was still just as chilled as when the ice had first been added.

And even 12 hours later, you can still feel that it's "cold" — cold enough that condensation forms on the outside of a cup when you pour the drink into it. Given the capacity, I don't think it will turn lukewarm before you finish drinking it.

Let's try taking it apart and washing it

One of the great things about the Stelton Vacuum Jug is that you can disassemble it and wash every corner. I wash the inside of the bottle where you pour drinks every day, but I wash the outer container that holds the bottle about once a month.

There's one round black button on each side of the jug. The mechanism is such that if you push those buttons while pulling the spout at the top of the jug upward, the lid comes off.

Inside, there are parts called the glass filler, including the main bottle body where drinks go and the packing. Take these apart as well, wash each piece, then reassemble and put them back, and your maintenance is complete.

Honestly, pushing the round black buttons while pulling the spout upward takes a bit of strength. Since the jug body is thick, it's difficult to push both buttons with one hand while pulling the spout with the other. So this isn't maintenance I do every time, but the sense of reassurance that comes from being able to check every corner with your own eyes and wash it or maintain it whenever necessary is truly a good thing.

Adapting to changes in your lifestyle

By keeping cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot for long periods of time, the Vacuum Jug gives you a sense of ease with your time. The happiness of having a delicious drink on hand without interruption while you're concentrating on something is something only those who have gotten a Vacuum Jug can truly understand.

What's really appealing ishaving both keep-cold and keep-warmfunctions, which lets it be useful all year round, regardless of the season. Once it gets cold, I'm looking forward to enjoying warm tea all day long, and while I currently only use it at home, once it becomes possible to go out again, I'm sure it will fully demonstrate its capabilities on picnics and outdoor outings as well.

And of course, it's not just about function — the cool appearance and design that looks perfectly natural left out on display are also reasons I want to keep using it day after day. It's simple yet has a mysterious sense of presence, without being oddly conspicuous — a stylishness that suits any kitchen or table.

The fact that, more than 40 years after its release, it's still beloved as an everyday tool not only in households in its home country of Denmark but also in cafes and restaurants around the world is proof of this jug's ease of use and high level of design.
