Osechi cooking is the beginning of the new year with family, relatives and friends. When you open the lid and look at the colorful dishes that are neatly packed, you feel like you've welcomed the New Year. Jubako is a container that colors such a special day, but since it only comes out once a year, it's kind of a waste and it's hard to get your hands on it. Also, taking up storage space during the off-season is a problem.

In order to solve such a problem, ZUTTO's original two-tiered jubako was produced by requesting Kijiya in Fukui Prefecture, a production area of ​​square lacquerware. Generally, many jubako are square, but we created a rectangular jubako that does not take up too much space on the table and is easy for everyone to reach out to.

Lacquer-lacquered multi-tiered boxes are appealing because of their stately and luxurious feel, but they may be a little intimidating because you may not be able to use them on a daily basis. In that respect, this ZUTTO original two-tiered jubako has a design that blends Japanese and Western styles using beautiful Japanese ash wood.

In addition, it is made with a wedge that does not use nails, and you can feel the handiwork of the craftsman from these details.

It is also recommended that you can pack it neatly because it has a partition. The size is made for 3-4 people with 2 tiers, but if you use it with 1 tier, it is just the right size for 1-2 servings of chirashi sushi, hors d'oeuvres, lunch boxes, etc.

For ZUTTO's jubako, which emphasizes ease of use, we chose a rectangular shape instead of a square. The reason for this is that if you place the two tiers side by side on the table, you can easily take food from wherever you are sitting and place the plate in front of the jubako. And when you take it out and eat it on a leisure sheet, you can place it vertically to make it almost square and make it easy for multiple people to surround. It is a shape that you can use while changing the placement so that it is easy to use without fixing the placement. Also, there is a drawback that there are not many bags that can hold large boxes with square jubako, but the rectangular shape is easy to put in your hand bag and you can easily bring it to sports events and picnics.

Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture is known as a production area for glasses and textiles, but it is also famous as a major production area for lacquerware. Toku Inoue Mokko, who commissioned the production, is also one of the workshops in Sabae City, and is a woodturner that produces wooden products such as multi-tiered boxes, lunch boxes, and trays that are the base of traditional crafts of Echizen lacquerware. A square product is made through four processes: wood removal → component processing → assembly → finishing, but each process requires the skill of a craftsman. Inoue Toku Mokko is particularly good at mitering (combining at 45 degrees etc.) processing, and this jubako is also made with wedge mitering. With this process, the edges of the wood are not visible, and the finish is beautiful when viewed from any 360-degree angle.

Daily necessities that have been handed down from long ago often fade away as lifestyles change. While inheriting traditional shapes and techniques, we want to add new ideas and techniques to create products that are loved by generations.
