Egg bowls are a chubby, curved version of the standard bowl that is just right for soup and rice bowls.Versatile and standard bowls are the most useful shape at the dining table.Originally, our planning staff fell in love with this design at first sight when they saw a sample, but it is a little small for a one-handed size.Although it was just right for soup and other dishes, we wondered if it would be possible to increase the capacity while maintaining the cuteness of the design. After consulting with Mr. Sakai of Rorokurosha, we began work on this vessel, and after four years, it became a reality. We are very pleased that she has created a very nice piece of pottery in a size that is easy to use, while maintaining the cute and rounded appearance of the original.
Bowls that can be used for both Japanese and Western cuisine
How shall we use it?This is the kind of egg bowl that makes you look forward to using it.First of all, it can be used in a variety of ways, such as for miso soup, stewed meat and potatoes, yogurt with honey or granola, or chazuke (rice with green tea) when you are hungry. It has an elegant Japanese atmosphere, but is also casual like a bowl, so it can also be used as a small plate for snacks at snack time.
The base of the bowl is made of zelkova wood, and lacquer is applied on top of it.Lacquer is the sap that comes out when the urushi tree is scratched, and the more it is used, the more it tastes good.Because it is a natural material, each piece is unique, just like people, and no two pieces are exactly alike. Therefore, even if the same process is performed, the amount of time and effort required differs from one item to another, but there is no difference in the high level of perfection, and the item is still made with care and attention to detail.
Wiping lacquer gives the impression of warmth by allowing the grain of the wood to be seen. The grain expression differs depending on the wood, so it is easy to feel that the bowl is unique and special.
Wiping lacquer: Raw lacquer is applied to the bowl and wiped off repeatedly to finish it.
Wiped lacquer: Black lacquer is produced by adding iron and heat to the raw lacquer material and stirring it to produce a blackish color.Like raw lacquer, the process of repeatedly applying and wiping off the lacquer on the bowl is repeated to finish it.
Egg bowls will please even those who already have standard bowls, and are recommended as gifts for celebrations such as weddings.
