NANGA was founded in 1941 as Yokota Sewing, a manufacturer of kotatsu futons and futon mattresses. In the 1960s, the company changed its name to NANGA to continue manufacturing in Japan. As a manufacturer of sleeping bags and down jackets using premium down, the company became known not only in Japan but around the world for its reputation among mountaineers. NANGA refers to Nanga Parpat, the 8,125m-high peak in the Himalayas and the ninth highest mountain in the world. It's known for being extremely difficult to climb and for the high number of people lost in captivity, but the reason we named our brand after this mountain is to reflect our strong will to continue challenging ourselves to overcome the most difficult conditions.
