There are several coats that have been loved across generations around the world, but one that stands out for its silhouette, which has not changed significantly over time, is the trench coat. Especially in Japan, where we experience four distinct seasons, the trench coat's ability to "shield against rain and wind" and its versatility of being able to remove the liner for year-round wear are key reasons why it continues to be chosen, even among vintage options, with little regard for trends.
What we are introducing today is a unique trench coat that has arrived from Bishu. It is a piece filled with attention to detail that will make the wearer look wonderful.
A Unique Trench Coat from Bishu, Crafted with Care
This ultimate trench coat, made by Shin Nihon Factory, is the Hataya Trench. It features organic cotton and merino wool, focusing on comfort and durability.
The fabric is woven from particularly rare organic extra-long cotton yarn and very fine merino wool (super 120's) yarn. The inclusion of merino wool allows for beautiful drape, enhancing warmth and moisture absorption, making it comfortable to wear from the cold season through the humid spring.
By weaving such yarns in a 2/1 twill structure, the fabric achieves a sharp and clear impression. Craftsmen slowly weave the fabric on low-speed rapier looms to avoid putting stress on the yarn, carefully adjusting the balance of the warp and weft visible from the front. The fabric features a gentle, natural iridescence that catches the eye without being overly flashy.
To make the most of the fabric's quality, the outer material is generously used, and the coat is constructed without a lining, making it a single layer. The facings, the back of the belt, and inside the inverted pleats are intentionally made with the fabric used in reverse, subtly changing the atmosphere every time you move or change how you wear it. Available in two colors, beige and solaro green, both have a beautiful, natural luster, allowing you to enjoy the difference in yarn colors on either side. While the beige appears to be a standard trench at first glance due to the similar colors used in both directions, its true quality reveals itself when in motion. The solaro green, using orange yarn against the green, offers a more dynamic color change, making it a recommended second trench coat.
Because It’s a Trench Coat That Has Been Loved for a Long Time
Among coats, the trench coat has the most parts and a high level of sewing difficulty. Because it has been loved for so long and there are many comparisons, the Hataya Trench features meticulous sewing specifications and carefully selected top-quality components.
The removable liner fabric is made from wool seven, known for its excellent warmth. The original check pattern designed specifically for this trench coat adds a stylish touch when it peeks out. The buttons on the front are made from real water buffalo horn, while the buttons on the back are shell buttons. The buckles are luxuriously made from genuine leather, sewn by artisans one by one, ensuring a texture unique to natural materials that will not diminish over time.
For sizing, those around 158 cm tall will find size 1 to be a perfect fit, while those around 160 cm can choose between sizes 1 and 2 for a silhouette that suits them. For those who prefer a more relaxed fit or are over 160 cm, size 3 is recommended. For men, sizes 3 to 5 are suggested. Choose according to your preference for a slim fit or an oversized silhouette.
