Warm Glass
The origin of Tsugaru Vidro dates back to 1949 when the manufacturer, Hokuyo Glass, began producing fishing floats. The floats crafted by Hokuyo Glass gained a reputation for their durability, achieving the highest production volume in Japan by 1973. Subsequently, utilizing techniques such as "sorafuki" developed through years of float production, they began creating handmade glass inspired by the nature of Aomori, leading to the birth of Tsugaru Vidro in 1977. "Sorafuki" is a technique where molten glass is attached to a blowing pipe, and air is blown in from the opposite side to shape it. While this technique allows for versatile shaping, it also tests the skill of the craftsman.
Another characteristic of Tsugaru Vidro is its lustrous colors. The elegant hues reminiscent of Aomori's nature are carefully blended by skilled artisans. Tsugaru Vidro, created by artisans who continue to strive for new techniques, has been designated as a traditional craft of Aomori. It possesses a vibrant charm while also exuding a certain rustic presence. Its beauty is something you will want to admire for a long time, seamlessly blending into your everyday life.
