One of the three major festivals in Tohoku, the Aomori Nebuta Festival is known for its vibrant lights and fireworks that illuminate the night sky. The "NEBUTA" series captures this beauty in glass. Eight colors of glass—red, blue, yellow, green, and more—harmonize together, showcasing a dazzling expression every time they catch the light.
The patterns that emerge on the surface of the vessels evoke the dynamism and liveliness of the Nebuta Festival. Just by placing them on the dining table, they bring a sense of the summer festival's excitement.
Two Shapes to Choose from for Your Dishes
The deep, versatile bowl is perfect for serving summer dishes like cold somen or udon noodles. Its generous size can hold plenty of food, making it ideal for salads, cold dishes, and fruits as well. The transparent glass layered with color enhances the freshness of the food, adding a cool impression to your dining table.
The small bowl is a practical size for everyday use, whether for serving side dishes or condiments. Its vibrant colors make even simple dishes look impressive. It pairs easily with other tableware, making it a great accent for your dining setup.
Both pieces shine even brighter when they catch the light, allowing you to enjoy the colorful shadows they cast on your table. They effortlessly brighten up your seasonal dining experience.
Warmth of Glass
In 1949, Hokuo Glass, the manufacturer, began producing fishing floats, marking the origin of Tsugaru Vidro. The floats crafted by Hokuo Glass gained a reputation for their durability and quality, leading to the company boasting the highest production volume in Japan by 1973. Subsequently, utilizing techniques like "sorabuki," honed through years of float production, they began creating handmade glass inspired by the nature of Aomori, resulting in the birth of Tsugaru Vidro in 1977. "Sorabuki" is a technique where molten glass is attached to a blowing pipe, and air is blown in from the opposite side to shape it. This method allows for free-form shaping, testing the skills of the artisans.
Another characteristic of Tsugaru Vidro is its lustrous colors. The elegant hues reminiscent of Aomori's nature are meticulously blended by the artisans. Tsugaru Vidro, created by artisans who continue to strive for new techniques, has been designated as a traditional craft of Aomori. With a blend of vibrancy and a certain rustic presence, these glass products shine with a beauty that invites you to admire them endlessly while seamlessly fitting into your daily life.
