We wear knitwear almost every day in winter, but the cold weather tends to limit our choice of bottoms, which can make our outfits feel repetitive. At times like this, thinking about "what to wear under your knit" can open up a whole new range of styling options. Even with the same sweater, pairing it with a turtleneck or shirt underneath, or letting a bit of white cut-and-sew fabric peek out from the hem, can completely change the impression it gives. Having a variety of inner layers may be a key point in enjoying your favorite knitwear for longer, in more ways.
This time, ZUTTO has created the "Cashmere Silk Sheer Jersey High-Neck Mellow-Edge Long Sleeve T-Shirt," designed to be worn as an inner layer under knits. It's a perfect piece for anyone who feels their autumn and winter coordinates have become a little too predictable.
The standout feature is the wavy mellow-edge finish on the hem and sleeves. It's not as overtly sweet as frills or lace, so it blends naturally into casual styles while adding just the right touch of sweetness to your outfit.
The key point of this mellow-edge finish is that it's not applied around the collar. Having it near the face tends to give a stronger, more girlish impression, but by placing it only on the hem and sleeves, the top can still be worn just like an ordinary cut-and-sew piece. And because it's on the sleeves, you catch a glimpse of it during everyday moments—like when you glance at your hands while working or doing housework—much like the small lift in mood you get from wearing nail polish or a favorite bracelet.
The sleeves are intentionally cut long. This lets the inner layer peek out even when paired with a loose, roomy knit, and when worn on its own, the softly gathered sleeves become a styling point in themselves. Since the fabric has a sheer quality, wearing it alone outside of winter creates a look with subtle nuance.
The fabric is a blend of lyocell with cashmere and silk. The soft texture of lyocell combines with the suppleness of cashmere and the sheen of silk to create a luxurious feel unlike anything else.
Lyocell is a regenerated fiber made from eucalyptus. Unlike petroleum-based synthetic fibers, it's made from natural raw materials, so despite being a man-made fiber, it's said to have a relatively low environmental impact. It's also biodegradable, and is a material expected to attract even more attention going forward. With its gentle touch that feels good against the skin, moderate stretch, and moisture absorption, it's an excellent fabric that delivers comfortable wear.
From left: GREY, MOSS GREY, D.NAVY
We've prepared three colors: MOSS GREY, GREY, and D.NAVY. By deliberately avoiding a purely monochrome palette, this becomes an inner layer with just a bit of personality.
MOSS GREY
Knit: Royal Alpaca V-Neck Knit Cardigan
Pants: Yarn-Dyed Moleskin Wide Tuck Pants
Shoes: Front Zip Side Gore Boots
Bag: Bull Bas Tote HALLIE
A beautiful color with a faint hint of green. Pairing it with green-toned knits like this looks lovely, and it also asserts itself nicely against white or black knits.
GREY
Top: Super Fleece-Back Pullover
Skirt: Cotton Slub Piping Skirt
Shoes: ESPLAR/EXTRA-WHITE BLACK
Bag: KUDU NAKED MEDICINE BAG
A warm gray with yellow undertones rather than blue. Even in a mostly black outfit, it softens the overall look without making it feel too sharp or rigid.
D.NAVY
Vest: Extra Fine Wool Long Knit Vest
Skirt: EASY KILT LONG (81cm) ROSSMUCK
Shoes: CHELSEA BOOT 1829 Black
Bag: Pouch Bag
Pairing it with a vest really highlights the charm of the softly gathered sleeves. Since the navy is close to black, it's versatile enough to match with almost any color.
